Re: Skream - Sticky

Respectfully disagree. You drop this in a set and it'll go off. Simple, effective.

Anything from Aniara Recordings (label). Visionquest (label). Also follow Dixon (dj) sets. So much goodness to be had.

Re: Photek - 124

Loefah always cited Photek as being one of the inspirations for him to move into his minimal spacious half-step work. You can definitely see why with tracks like this. Truly one of the greats. Big up. Great interview where he talks about it: http://blackdownsoundboy.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.h...

Re: Is ambition actively discouraged in electronic music?

Skream and Benga gave enough. So many pure dubs, people that ask for more are selfish.

Re: Is ambition actively discouraged in electronic music?

There is a lot of grey when it comes to this subject. Yes, people resent when artists they previously enjoyed seem to alter their sound or artistry in order to cash in more lucrative veins of music/art. It's not that people dislike the artists/producers/whatever making money is at the cost of a uniq...

Re: ZOMBY

Alot of times I think its such a silly thing, the way people get pulled into 'dubstep's orbit. Which is why I'm glad that zomby is on 4ad, he'll be able to stretch his limbs. Then again, there was a time when dubstep could encapsulate such disparate influences and sounds. without all the negative co...

Re: ZOMBY

As much as i like Zomby and Hype Williams, i dont see the point in pretentiousness. Being an arsehole doesn't make the music any more interesting. Hype Williams are aloof to the point of being obnoxious in the interviews ive read of them.[/quote] I understand what you're saying but I disagree, compa...

indulgent melodies? what does that mean?

I think the real issue is; there are artists and there are just producers.
zomby and hype williams fall into the former.

Re: What are good sample packs with sweeps?

how did u come about that? cause i gave someone a reality check...look my original point was the following... in order to understand what music production is all about, u have to contextualise ur productions so that other listeners will be able to understand and appreciate it too. its a 2 way relat...

Wicked thanks for the tips! If anyone else has anything I've still got an open book. Any record stores that I shouldn't miss? And yes I mean Vinyl.

New York City 3/15/2012 - 3/18/2012

I'll be up in the NYC on the dates listed. Any nights or off the grid locales I should visit?
I know Breakbeat Science carries some choons on wax so I'll definitely be hitting that up but what else does
the city have to offer this weekend?

Thanks in advance!

needs to be said now more than ever...when you sit down at your music station, do you make music, or do you make a genre of music? miles davis didn't pick up a trumpet, and say to himself, i'm going to make smooth jazz today. he just made music. same with hendrix. same with marley. same with anyone...

Re: COMMERCIAL VS. UNDERGROUND - On Trying To Combine The Tw

I think the fact that you're considering each one as a separate entity betrays your lack of respect for music in that you believe in compromising or watering it down for 'mass appeal'. I also believe that people having such aims and distinctions perpetuates the divide even further. Just make good mu...

Re: Scuba

scuba is over-hyped i mean come on, his album is ok but not worth a purchase as there are plenty of producers who are creating much more exciting music then him. the vocals are fucking cheesy, thats what annoys me the most, people who defend him are just fanboys caught up in the hype imo, defending...
