For real Gregory Issacs plays RIDDIM! Big fan of Prince Far I as well, he toasts on some pure vibe tunes. Who is that bedward the flying preacher tune by? As in; whos the backing band AND the producer. I agree that On-u sounds output is pretty hit and miss in terms of quality tunes, but Adrian sherw...

Yeah anything with scientist involved i always felt were heavyweight affairs. "wins the world cup" is gold but i think "Scientist vs Prince jammy at king tubbys house; the big showdown" wins over for me. Jah thomas doing the toasting, the roots radics (i know they play on nearly ...

Big props to HUGE for those sites, clued me up some things iv been wondering on for awhile, muchly apreciated. Agree with Clone AK as well, all good music in my eyes comes from roots. All dance really started off from dead early hip hop, which was instigated when kool keith brought the idea of sound...

Roots reggae

Just listened to Augustus Pablo's "Dubbing in africa" with sly & robbie and suddenly found myself interested; how many proper roots fans are out there? Slap your favourite producer down on the thread, or just ramble about how bass quakingly great you think it is as a genre. Its a hard ...

Yeah silly old me. Full props to those guys, they have it locked. They get names to play that i never see coming, its great they have the guts and the love of the music to take risks and not just slam the a-list non stop. Rob smith, Adrian sherwood, horace andy, jah shaka, i could go on. And the ira...

Was that the DMZ room @ sub dub in leeds or another night altogether? Sub dub is a heavy set up, caught the blood and fire sound system there (rankin joe slew dem all over) but havent yet made it to the DMZ affiliated nights. Its on the top of the list now though, that sets heavy!

Yeah totaly. What it comes down to is knowing whatever software you use inside out, and from that you can get some amazing results with very basic stuff (provided you have good ideas to start with!). Look at how jungle started out, on old akai s950 and ataris. Doc Scotts "Drumworks" wasnt ...

Dubstep has great use for breaks, cos its at such a slow tempo and its not a rigid, straight rhythm like with breakbeat you can really twist them into fresh new shapes

I agree with what your saying doomstep, the sub should ride the kick like the bass player of a band should play as part of the Rhythym section, not the guitar section. The bass is the voice of the kick drum.

MPC all the way, though the EMU samplers cant be beat either. The routing and modulation you can do to your sounds, coupled with the twisted filter set makes them mad lethal. Big props to the Waldorf Pulse and the XT, the XT is all about wavetable synthesis which you can pull some mad atmospheres ou...
