ELEVATE Das Schlossbergfestival Graz / 24 – 28102007
Festival for contemporary music and political discourse
Four nights packed with concerts, live acts, and DJs from all over the world. Four days of lectures, discussions, workshops, installations and performances from (independent) organizations, critical thinkers, activists and artists. Most events take place in venues carved inside the historic Schlossberg – the hill in the center of Graz.
// ELEVATEDEMOCRACY!
The ELEVATE festival 2007 addresses different critical views on the topic of democracy through a dense schedule of lectures, discussions, workshops and film screenings. It will be a gathering of forward thinking activists, authors and scientists as well as a playground for new ideas and projects.
The stage will be set for an open minded discourse and intellectual exchange through talks from a combination of internationally acclaimed guests and local activists, as well as through public interaction in panels and discussions. Three topics over three days – ‘technology’, ‘media and journalism’ and ‘critique, theory and perspective’ offer abundant opportunity for wide participation.
Guests include: the long term U.S. member of congress and potential presidential candidate 2008, Cynthia McKinney; Professor Emeritus of computer science at MIT, critical thinker and author Prof. Dr. Joseph Weizenbaum; Nieman Fellow in Journalism at Harvard University, and radio news Director turned CNN and Emmy Award winning ABC News Producer, Danny Schechter; filmmaker, Eminem video director, guerrillanews.com founder and activist Ian Inaba from New York; U.S. community Internet pioneer and wireless communication expert Sascha Meinrath; net-activist and co-founder of ‘telepolis’ online magazine, Armin Medosch, and many other people who are concerned with and engaged in the topic of democracy.

Workshops, lectures and showcases featuring international and local artists with the aim of supporting practical knowledge in areas such as sound design (Mike Dred), street art (Permanent Unit), music production (Al Haca) and visual art (Strukt), will be held on the three floors of the Forum Stadtpark Art Center. Discussions on topics like ‘underground’, ‘music industry’, ‘digital rights management’ and ‘creative commons’ will also take place.
Discussions, Films, Lectures, Workshops from 11am to 10pm – free of charge at: Dom im Berg, Grüne Akademie, Forum Stadtpark and Spektral
// ELEVATELIVE!
In 2006, the ELEVATE festival initiated and successfully completed a live video-streaming internet project. This year it will be expanded to a 4 day long 24 hour broadcast. New standards of interaction will be set, as the program will feature documentary films, short films, visuals and live-broadcasting of discussions, workshops and lectures, as well as live music of artists at the festival. A hi-tech guerrilla-media experiment. ‘Build your own media!’.
// ELEVATEMUSIC!
As in previous years the music line up of this year´s festival is representative of current developments in electronic music scenes worldwide. Leading artists and labels are featured and for most it is their first appearance in Austria and for some even in Europe. For her Austrian premier, BBC’s Mary Anne Hobbs will curate, as well as perform in, a special dubstep night. DJ Scotch Egg from Japan will present a night full of US-american noise- and avant-garde bands. A broad spectrum of musical styles guarantees a wide range of listening and dancing experiences.
