Okay, your a producer right?
Lets say, someone asks you 'Hey, we wanna release your tune, use it commercially, and use it to build our reputation, but we cant afford to pay you, so we'll put your name on it.'
...youd already expect them to be giving you credit, so it wouldnt really change much, and would you really want to just hand out hard work?
When Ive hired graphic designers before they worked very closely with me to get my ideas and visions, they listened to my tunes to make sure they were setting the right vibe, and tryed thier best to make something original, market ready, and which captured my personality... you think your gonna get that off a blind dsf post, for free? Especially after you gave no specifics in your post no less? Nah, your gonna get some 15 year old kid who will hit up a free font website, get something youll end up paying royalties on anyway one day, then steal an image off google to put the stolen font over. Basically like putting together a few stolen loops to make an analogy to producing again.
Graphics arent horribly expensive, i got my logo + 2 album covers done for the sum total of less then Id have payed for a bag of herb.
Your expecting someone to do something passionately artistic and that just doesnt come for free, same as your music doesnt. Theres a major disconnect with the value of artistic accomplishment coming about in the age of the internet, and its not cool.
The only thing youll get for free will be unoriginal and more then likely fall into the category of plagiarism.
In b4 dfrnt, Im just saying everything he'd have told you anyway.
If you want my suggestions though, District9, Conzpiracy, and SaraJenson all work fairly cheap and have delivered me some AMAZING work before.

There you go dude...

Won't even charge you for it - *and* I've got all the source files.
I spent as much time on it as you're willing to pay for it
(seriously though - if you want to throw a bit of cash at it, let's talk about it - but as mentioned above, you'll get what you pay for most of the time I'm afraid).

Hello,
I've been a graphic designer for about 12 years now. My usual fee is around $50.00 but because you are a DSF member I will work out a deal with you.

Sorry man, I feel like I've started something awful here.iramdubstep wrote:ok ok i get it guys:)

My main point is you get what you pay for - *almost* all the time.
Also - look at what makes a good logo, look at how strong brands are perceived - don't just presume that some flash graphics and a lens flare or a bit of "grungy" text will work. It'll look dated very very quickly.
It takes years of experience to get a good grasp of logo and graphic design. I'm certainly not saying I'm any sort of expert either. I've been doing it for about 8 - 10 years now. I still have lots to learn, but essentially if you're willing to pay a respectable amount, to cover a respectable bit of work, including research, foundations in design, understanding of your audience, target market and a degree of experience then you'll likely end up much happier.
Re: Any graphic designers??
Yeah bang on is right... Its funny you linked that thread as a response to what I was saying, MikeyP, because its actually one of the ones i had in mind when making that post.DFRNT wrote:I'd say bang on actually.mikeyp wrote:Teknicyde wrote:mikeyp wrote:what's the big deal guys? i've seen a few threads here of people offering to do good free logo work.Teknicyde wrote: your gonna get some 15 year old kid who will hit up a free font website, get something youll end up paying royalties on anyway one day, then steal an image off google to put the stolen font over.

Those are 100% guaranteed to not be fonts he's designed himself, or ones hes payed royalties/obtained rights to. Id bet you my turntables/cdjs, whichever youd prefer to have, that much is true. Id be shocked if he didnt get the pyramid and overlay textures from google as well.
Buuut, even more important!
They all depend heavily on being in full color, therefor they arent really what Id even consider 'logos'... Logos should be simple, to the point, and not depend on a color scheme or transparency effect to look good. If you consider one of these ;

These would look great no matter what color you made them, what flyer you put them on, ect. They are very cross-applicable, a logo should fit easily into any other design/graphic and be able to be used anywhere, and still iconically be recognized. Turn the echodub logo mono-shade bright yellow, it will still be the echodub logo. Turn one of the design posted in that thread mono-shade bright yellow, it will be an incoherent blob of color, make sense?
A logo isnt a complicated ass font with a bunch of brushes and lens effects put to it, its a simple, iconic image, that can be used to represent you or yours in any situation or context.
