Monstro - Hush (Unmastered) Need mixdown critique!

Hey there DSF! I have been working my A*# off on getting my mixdown skills to improve so that I can send my new tracks to be mastered properly. This is the first one I am completely done with as far as mixdown and I need some critique because I dont really have the proper monitors to mixdown perfectly and I want to make sure I am not overcompensating for something or anything like that.

This is an unmastered clip and peaks at something like -4 so its quiet and you will need to turn your speakers up. I just really need to know if my mixdown is ready for mastering, so that I can move on to the other tracks.

And sorry in advance for the lame tag, on the intro and drop but soundcloud ripping is getting so prevalent that I have been advised by labels and friends to put the copy protection tags on my samples.

After using some friends equipment for reference I can say I think the sub needs more volume.

I really like this tune man! The sub may need a bit more volume but not much, I would focus on your kick it gets lost in your bass

Yep, def. felt that too, and that is also an issue of volume because I was playing on my buddy's pa and he was mixing and we switched and I switched out of megolodon and P0gman type stuff and by comparison my kick seemed loud so I turned it down waaay too much, most of the issue I thought were present of this mix have been resolved and I will repost soon.

I am glad you like it! Ive been sitting on this track for a while and I have a whole bunch more, but I just want to be sure my mixdown skills are decent before I really start trying to get things mastered and whatnot.

what software do you use?

A lot. The short answer is massive, a bunch of additional effects and a shitload of time... and protools. Drums are sequenced with battery 3, but not using any battery sounds in this song outside the toms. Eqs, reverbs, saturator and comps are waves and psp, mostly psp. All the bass sounds, sub and filth in this song are my own creation from scratch, the only way to go. And the sub is one I made in massive.

I'm not very great at mixdowns myself, but from listening to it on my KRK's it sounded pretty good man. The only thing I really caught was like the other guy said, the kick does seem to get lost. Really like the melody and dirty bass though!

I like what you've got here. In addition to what others have said, I'd lace some reverb across your main elements. It all sounds very dry as is. A touch of 'verb can be the difference between sounding huge and sounding like it's in a cardboard box.

There are touches of verb on the synths, hats, leads and choir stab, but the amount is very very dry, perhaps. Ill. Wetten it a bit, and thanks for tthe tips!!

Am impressed man, good solid track. I'd work on that tom fill at around 1.10 though, could be a bit smoother! Feels a bit lurchy if you get what I mean :3

Great track man, nice work! All I can really say is to extend the pause before the drop by a beat or 2, I feel it comes in a little to early. Other than that i couldn't fault anything about it.

Made a few more adjustments, sub is a lil quieter and the violins are a little louder but my computer is now in the shop, so it may actually be lost anyway. If it is not, with these changes, does it sound mixdown worthy.
