Roland TB-303 / Evolution of musicians documentary

Post by wormcode » Thu Aug 25, 2011 8:31 am

I figured more people would be interested in seeing this, and didn't want to hijack the previous thread any more. Was uploading it but it was already on youtube. Not nearly enough views though.

Some good info and tunes in this doc. Nice little film, if a little monotonous vocally.
Btw, the waveforms were definitely sawtooth and square (not sine).

These now go for ~$2,000/£1,200 easy. I've seen the original carrying case go for $400 alone.
What makes these even more special is if you put 2 of them side by side, they won't sound exactly the same.

TB303 :U: My mates got one, such a sexy bit of kit. Ive got two of the x0xb0x clones, which are 99% sexy.

Good doc, but his voice is a great cure for insomnia...

The x0x series is amazing.

It's sad how lame synths have gotten since those days.

i've been on such an oldschool kick recently, really groovin on the days when all you used to make a tune was a 909, a 303, a sampler, and a shitty mixing console.. really a lot of amazing vibes and energy. i've always been hooked on the liquid 303 bassline .. in the hands of someone who knows what to do, it really is a magical thing .. can bring you straight out of your body as those frequencies ascend

rebirth was how I got my start in techno and house, when I was too young to even know there was a scene for it beyond the internet

Cheers for sharing. Been meaning to get a x0xb0x kit once I get some money together, been using a 303 patch so much recently.

I think these are amazing, I've used a couple at once before, and I own a couple of hardware replicas but to me this is for nostalgia now. I would love to own one, but I can think of many places that 2k would be better spent. I'm happy with software like D16 Phoscyon which IMO is more of an acid machine, not necessarily a 303 emulation (maybe closer to the Devilfish). The Audiorealism Bassline I think is more a barebones 303 emulation. Both of them are very very nice though. I was never a fan of Rebirth though (it's free now btw).

If I were going to drop a couple of grand for a TB-303, I would go all out and get the Devilfish mod:
I've also seen some circuit bent 303s that are just insane!

I was talking about hardware synths. Compare the Korg MS-20 to a MicroKorg.

Ok fixed (replace that with a DS prophet 08, before you say I am not talking about modulars)

So weird! I came across that the other night too. I regularly look at synth porn on Ebay, and that popped up. Earlier that same night I was listening to Marshall Jefferson - Mushrooms, the Timewriter remix. Haven't heard that tune or his name in a long time. It convinced me it was a sign that I needed to buy it.

Now planning heists on Google Maps. :6:

Good tune btw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8Lb8z9YhvA

RIght now Roland would make a killing if they would just go back and put in the time and effort of hand-crafting their old line of analog synths and drum machines. Nothing digital will ever compare. I salute you old school Roland, but please can I get a rewind.

This seems to be korgs strategy of late. Put an ms-10 in a cigarette case.
