Flux Bittersweet is probably the best free one around.

Other than that, UAD SPL Transient Designer (which actually has magic fairies in it) and Voxengo Transmodder are the best for me :)

It's less digital sounding than all the other TDs I have here, I tell you that :) Especially when using it for overcompression effects with raising the sustain level. BAD BAD BAD plugin, a real fave.

BTW I'm selling a UAD-1 PCI card for 70 quid (no plugins though) if anyone is interested :)

Can someone tell me why it's better to use some memory and CPU hogging expensive-as-fuck bling-bling gear full of faeries, if I can use one of these:

What is that?

Well, obviously it is an envelope generator, but where from? :)

What if you want to increase the punch and/or sustain of every hit in an audio loop? Or increase the verb of a choral sample? Or increase the amount of 'pluck' in a bass guitar recording of an entire song (which is what I use it most for)? Or increase the sustain/fatness of a snare drum without using compression?

etc

:)

BTW 'chop it up and edit each hit in the sampler' is only an answer to the audio loop bit - and even then you'll have a hard time increasing sustain :)

^ not a transient designer for audio, though close in practice.

flux's bittersweet is very cool-- especially for a freebie-- but it's not the balls-to-the-wall smack/suck machine that the SPL and good digi versions are. I like logic's OK for boosts, but love it for cuts. the sonnox one is quite nice as well.

BTW, SPL make native versions of their hardware/plugins now, including the Transient Designer ones. They gave out a free version of Attacker a while back which is pretty great. I suspect they hold up well against the UAD version, probably the same minus the CPU hit. I didn't notice anything different, but I didn't really A/B.
