My headphones broke [sony mdr-700s]. I need new ones that are comfy on the ears and bassy. What do you all use?

yep i've had 2 pairs of sony dj headphones, they both broke in the same way and aren't replaceable. go for the sennheissers (fully replacable parts)! (and fucking good sound quality/isolation)

lemme add to this. sony 700s (the silver ones) always break.

however, sony mdr7506s are light, comfy, and sturdy. i had one pair for 8 years and this last pair for the last 2 years without a problem. i should never have bothered with the clunky silver ones.

7506 for life!!

I have Sony 600's. The only prob I have ever had with them is the cushions start to fall apart... and I have had a few pairs stolen/lost, never had a pair that just broke or blew. Have had techs and pio's and both shit the bed on me within a year. I wouldn't spend the dough on a really good pair just because I have a habit of misplacing things.

I've used the 700's before I can't stand the fact that it swivels, every time you go to stick 'em on your ear the cups are faced the wrong way. Plus I have also heard they break. 600's ftw... plus I got mine from the Sony store reconditioned and they cost around 60$.

yea my sony 700's broke too... fucking things always break, 1.5 years in they'll start to go, and when they do, they go quick.

im also trying to decide what ones to get... i want to use em for djing, and producing... but i think i might just end up getting 2 headphones in that case. might as well do it proper.

dj headphones my main 3 requirements are: they're loud/shut out background noise, they look stylish, good duribility.

producing ones: they're comfy, have great sound quality, and shut out background noise.

anyone have suggestions for strictly dj phones, and strictly producer phones?

i was thinking something from the akg line for producer... still not sure on dj ones... i liked the look of these audio technica's

i do a lot of studio recording-based stuff for a living and have used a range of different reference headphones for that sort of thing - not found much that matches Grado's gear (http://www.gradolabs.com/). Pricey though. I also really like the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's - they're about 150 squid, really comfortable and have excellent sound isolation. The lining of the ear pads is very soothing on the ol' lugs, even after extended use!

Some of AKG's more expensive cans might fit the bill too, but i'd avoid semi-open models such as the K-141s of which i've never really liked the sound or design.

My Pioneer HDJ1000 is 5 years old now, took it to all my gigs, sat on it, fell on the ground and still looks brand new. So I wouldn't cal it crap ...

this man knows. If you want comfort, these are the ones. Plus I hate HD-25s cos the cups don't swivel - not so good for mixing with one can tucked between head and shoulder.

I've got a pair of those technics phones you get out of Argos, not bad if you're on a budget

HD 25 are pretty expensive too, i went for the HD 25SP; cheaper & smaller version with very similar performance, & swivelling cups:

pretty comfortable imo but the wires do tend to get unnaturally tangled.
