How do you guys feel about bassline house?
How do you guys feel about bassline house?
This stuff is essentially the same as all the 4x4 garage i was buying a couple or few yrs back but the bass has gotten alittle heavier and they coined the gayest genre name ever, but....
some of it isn't all that bad imo.

nah its like speed garage
i think a lot of northern djs started picking up on all the banging stuff there was banging about 2nd hand and it started a bit of a scene (kind of like the northern soul thing), but now many ppl have started making their own stuff, which is kind of like speed garage but obviously with a new twist. cutup vocals on a lot of it, i think there are sort of different strands tho... organ, vocal etc. i havent really heard much tho
i remember my mates coming back from leeds raving about bassline house, then they played me a 187 lockdown tune! jokes. i'd like to go to a rave tho, definately would be a laugh

I have some Bassline House mix about on my computer somewhere. Richie Vee on 1xtra or something. I have no idea how it isn't just 4x4 Garage. Not fantastic, but I'd rather have it as the big new urban thing than funky house. Seems a bit too having it for the no hoods no trainers types, be interested to see what kind of crowd it draws.
The set does feature a remix of Cassie - Me & You which completely destroys everything that made the original awesome. It makes the vocal sound utterly indistinguisable from every other R&B hit of the last 5 years and makes me a little sad inside.

What I think happened is the promoters needed to get rid of the Garage tag so club owners would allow them to throw raves. Pretty much what Dreem Teem did with the "Urban House' shit.4linehaiku wrote:I have some Bassline House mix about on my computer somewhere. Richie Vee on 1xtra or something. That's just a guess tho.

richie vibe vee usually plays modern 4x4 tho doesnt he? stuff like d'explicit and wideboys and all that. wheras it seems that bassline is a specifically northern thing? more in common with speed garage than all the stuff thats happened in between. obviously these lines are all very thin tho

There are vox yelling B-B-B-B-B-Bassline House every 3 minutes for the majority of the mix, so I assume it's fairly representative of the genre. But given that it sounds exactly like modern 4x4 anyway it's not that big a deal. Rebranding to lose the Garage tag seems the most likely explanation.
Is threre any music out there that isn't in the process of frantically denying it's garage roots?
Grime with Duppy / Tropical perhaps, but then Grime is the one label more likely to stop a rave than UKG.
Northern as in North England or the hilarious London-centric meaning?

its an interesting point. so so much comes from garage, its actually ridiculous. so much current minimal techno/house too. i'd be interested to hear what producers/fans would say about that4linehaiku wrote:But given that it sounds exactly like modern 4x4 anyway it's not that big a deal. Some people move to London and their world view gets a little wonky. That's all I'm saying.
That would explain the slightly larger "havin' it" feel I suppose, coming as part of a continuum containing Scouse House and all that. Though I have no idea how big that sort of thing really is in Northern England, having spent approximatly 3 days there in my whole life. I'm just extrapolating a middle ground from London = Funky, Scotland = Gabba. Go go gadget sweeping generalisations.
