got this off samurai.fm this morning.
pretty fuckin nice little mix !
Belfast, the hometown of Boxcutter, is more than 300 miles from dubstep's epicentre in London, providing the perfect environment for excursions away from the conventions of the genre. Boxcutter makes use of his position as an external observer in a playful way: On his debut album Oneiric, he experimented with a blend of dub-step aesthetics, jungle basics, improvisation, breakbeats and and live instrumentation, making it one of the most exciting records of last year.

nice one, Boxcutter's last album was large so I look forward to seeing if he's any good at mixing it up (though many producers turn out to be shockingly poor DJs, Skream for example).

Boxcutter doesn't DJ, he does live PAs. I agree with you otherwise though.
Cheers for the linkage, always wanted to hear one of these.

I use the term DJ very loosely, in the sense that Boxcutter, Tim Wright, Stephen Beaupre et al mix electronic music together into a kind of set. I agree it isn't really a jockeying of discs, but the term Live PA is one of the least artistically inspiring and most cumbersome of descriptive terms in my opinion. I have started to just use electronic musician to describe these more adventurous of performers. Regardless of what we call them though, the fact remains that many people can't put together a coherent set. (ps I still haven't even managed to listen to this boxcutter set so I can't even comment on his skills yet!
