breakcore/noise/other

Post by idontreallygiveashit » Thu Mar 15, 2012 3:49 pm

Surely must be others here into this stuff?

By which i mean "stuff normally referred to as breakcore", "stuff normally referred to as breakcore but is really just noise" and "stuff pigeonholed into one genre but doesn't sound like anything else ever called that" .

God this is annoying, i mean genre defying stuff, anything unique goes. Raggacore, glitchcore, drill'n'bass, drumstep, mashup, mashcore, whatever the hell people call what you like.

I dont really know where to start to be honest, its a dying breed anyway. So instead i'll just post some stupendous stuff i found the other day - With Prison Cell Was Embraced (warning: it isn't for everyone):

The annoying/good thing about these artists is that they don't really use Youtube. Some of the sickest stuff i have found are just some guys on last.fm with like 600 listeners.

Also, i'll guess i'll just post some more stuff i think is sick. This is the worst thread ever.

Word of Warning - This is just the stuff i personally like, not representative of anything and because they dont really fit a genre you'll bound to find something you like and i hate or vice versa. Some other stuff that these guys are put in with sound absolutely nothing like them. Let us share our tastes

Dev/null, one of my top 5 favourite artists probably ever:

Nero's Day At Disneyland (stupendously unique, probably my number one artist ever)

Frog Pocket, beautiful yet insane. (One or two of my favourites aren't on Youtube)

Xanopticon, Pure noise madness. First track is just too much. Second clip has a video which is sick. Third is my alarm in the mornings.

Broken Note - I know many of you will know these guys already because they're sometimes associated with the "filth" scene, and on of the pair is from 16-bit, but they are so much more than that.

When the breaks come in on this one, fuck.

Had to post four for them because everyone needs to hear that Juno Reactor remix.

Enduser, probably the most accessible (bar broken note) stuff that i've posted. Straight break goodness. He tried to make some shit dubstep once though.

Last track is sort of corny but its too sick to pass up.

I've probably raped your bandwith or crashed your browser. I just needed to get this thread rolling, showcase some gems.

So if you're into harsh noises, silly noises, fucked up breaks, glitches, drones, interesting melodies, gabba kicks, ludicrous samples and the almighty amen, post it here.

And i know i've put mostly serious stuff here but thats just my thing. If you like Shitmat and funny mashups then post it!

In conclusion, i think i made a mess of this this thread. I just hope somebody comes to play with me.

Broken Note, Enduser and dev/null are some of my favourite producers. Bong-ra deserves a mention here as well.

But if I had to pick something, it would be Drumcorps

and Genghis Tron

Bong-ra freebies

Cardopusher on (I think) his last breakcore album:

Not really breakcore or whatever, but here's Synapscape

Cool stuff people.

Yeah, Drumcorps is massive. Someone on here called Grist dubstep, in which case it was the firstdubstep tune i ever liked haha. Aaron Spectre does some nice stuff outside Drumcorps too, i can't find a decent version on Youtube, but if you know Look Out Fi Liar, then you know!

Personally, i don't really rate Bong-ra as a producer. All his stuff is a bit... bleurgh to me. Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble is sick though.

Yeah, Cardopusher too. I really dont like his stuff anymore, or even that hardcore/gabba/amen style, but from like 2006-2008 i rinsed that daily. All about Jamaican Tang though. Still massive.

I never heard Synescape before, its kind of weird even by these standards too lol - what do you think of this though?

First one is such a tune. Its actually my ringtone lol.

If you guys like it hectic like that, then surely you must know Ladyscraper - these videos are great. Full version of that first track is free on the Cock Rock Disco website.

And finally, those Genghis Tron tunes are killer, i only ever glossed over them before, might have to give them a proper listen.

Genghis Tron changed their style a lot. For their second album they did this 5 part remix ep thing (even had a remix from Drumcorps, on vol 3 I think).

VWT was a bit too much for me. Reminded me of some DTrash stuff (minus the gabba influences, of course).

I still like some recent Cardopusher (Instant Loving EP and Everybody/Guava Blossom).

I stopped listening to Cardopusher when he started making dubstep full-time tbh. And the thing is, it was Quarta330's remix of Homeless that really switched me on and forced me to explore dubstep, so i owe a debt to Cardopusher in that sense. I didn't hear the original until i found it a few months ago and thought it was the terrible.

Where should i start with Genghis Tron, considering im not really into grind/screechy metal? Board up The House i remember being great, and that Endless Teeth tune you linked i enjoyed. Plus, in recent years i've started to listen to metal more generally (mainly thrash) so as long as it isn't extremely fast squeals i should be down for it.

Oh and i just checked last.fm - look whos number 8 for breakcore: http://www.last.fm/tag/breakcore :D

Well, GT have two albums, Dead Mountain Mouth and Board Up the House. You can start with those, though they're really different from each other; first one's more chaotic I guess. What got me into them was their first EP, Cloak Of Love.

Cardopusher lately is doing some uk funky-ish type of thing. Better than his dubstep imo.

lol @ Skrillex being breakcore

Ugh way too many youtube video's considering the number of posts. You'd think people would get what Enduser sounds like after, dunno, 1 video.

I'm pretty gay for Abelcain/Davros, Slutmachine, Senical, Stivs and all the Bloody Fist classics at the moment. Christoph F keeps tooting his own horn with Praxis oh and Alec Empire with with his old shit, but 90% of all breakcore these days sounds more like Bloody Fist and less than the jungle or noise worship of Ambush/Praxis/DHR. Still love all of those labels, though, don't get me wrong!

But yeah I dig breakcore. I hosted my own bcore party once.. we've had Broken Note, The Teknoist, Rotator, Ladyscraper, Atari Teenage Riot, Electric Kettle, Hellfish, I:gor and others play it. It was fun.

We've also got some breakcore celebs posting at this forum. Cardopusher, Droon, Somatic Reponses and a couple of others if I remember correctly.

Edit: I'm in the picture from the Drumcorps - Grist video. It's from Dour 2008!

That NDAD cover is surprisingly sick! Props to them!

Who is Ruby My Dear? Just gave it a Google, this one (http://rubymydear.bandcamp.com/), i guess so because the Peace Off releases.

Its really good and well produced, but maybe a bit toooooo much like Vsnares. Well that is until he brings in gabba kicks then it sounds like any generic artist's interpretation of breakore. The second half of the Dada Twist tune sort of sounds like a Rossz reject, even down to the Billie Holiday sample.

But nah, dont reckon that's the next Venetian Snares. To derivative if i must say so. I mean its well made and enjoyable but nothing that hasn't been done before.

There is this guy i discovered on Last.fm a while back who makes some terrific music, kind of like a Aphex-Snares lovechild. I know thats a pretty heavy thing to say but seriously, his tunes are amazing - only got 589 listeners. All his tunes are free, try the Departures EP first. Then try Starkiller, bit more ambient with some dubstep influences.

http://www.last.fm/music/Contorsionist

Yeah, i'm the guy creaming with "three in a row" (but actually two) posts over his stuff.

haha yeah, Contorsionist's alright; has about 3 free releases on asiluum. Check his other project, Montgomery Clunk, if you're into more wonky hiphop things.

Maybe you'll like Candlestickmaker (now using the Mountain moniker)

Haven't listened in a long while, but I remeber liking a few tunes.

I really like a lot of Venetian snares, the drumming is so intense.

Lady scraper is good if you want something noisy, but I can only have it in small doses as it has to be loud or not at all.

Aaron Spectre is also good, pretty similar to bong Ra with his Raggacore style stuff

great thread.
Fully endorse Enduser, Gengis Tron, Abelcain, Bong-Ra (also his live project as The Goat of Mendes which truly rocks) and many others.
I'd like to point your way towards Bombardier / The 13th Hour as well. One of my favourite producers but harder to track down his stuff for sale.

See this has moved to the main SNH bit. Could get some new recommendations and stuff going. Really enjoying what i've found in this thread so far.

Tried Bombardier/13th hour, some good stuff but it wasn't easy to find!

Anybody got more some more ambient glitchy stuff? Stuff along the lines of some Flashbulb tracks, and Frog Pocket. Complex home listening tunes. Also, some more wonky and skwee tunes like Montgomer Clunk/ Kuedo/ Jamie Vex'd/ Slugabed. I know they aren't breakcore, but whatever.
