blurb-ism:

Cancel all other plans: FACT is throwing a free party at The Lock Tavern on Sunday 22nd February, with Factory Floor, Brackles, The Heatwave and more.

We've been meaning to do something with our pals at the Lock for some time now, but you know how it is...Finally we've pulled our finger out, and from now on we''ll be commandeering the venerable Camden boozer on a bi-monthly basis with a crack team of our favourite DJs and live acts in tow.

For our inaugural bash, taking place in, yes, just under two weeks' time, we'll be joined by Factory Floor, who'll be performing live. Having recently supported Lydia Lunch and Faust, these enticingly morbid East Londoners are inspired by the erratic funk and queasy ambience of Hannett-produced Factory 12"s, and their Planning Application EP is a must-hear. Live, they achieve the not inconsiderable feat of making punters dance while also scaring the living bejesus out of 'em - they're your new favourite band, basically. Look out for an exclusive Factory Floor podcast going up on the site later this week...

We're thrilled to have Brackles heading up the DJ action. This former Nottingham resident is barely into his twenties but has already released two belting dubstep 12"s - 'Broken Harp' on Pollen and 'Glazed' on Berkane Sol - and has one forthcoming on Appleblim's Apple Pips imprint (sometime home to Martyn, Ramadanman, T++ et al). Inspired by all the good stuff - Slimzee, Horsepower, Dilla, El-B, MJ Cole - Brackles is probably our favourite DJ around right now, and basically blew our minds last time he played FWD>>. With a sound a million miles away from the blokey, sludgy going rate of dubstep, this kid effortlessly incorporates funky, rolling grime, vintage 2-step and bassline into his impossibly energetic, elastic sets and will, without doubt, tear the Lock Tavern a new roof. Sorry, Lock Tavern. Oh, and because we love you, we'll be putting up an exclusive FACT Mix from our man next week - hold tight for that.

Gabriel Heatwave - FACT contributor, dancehall authority and member of, yes, The Heatwave - will be on point to inject some Caribbean rave spirit into proceedings. He'll be playing loosely around the theme of '20 Best Dancehall', but given how high-speed and hyped-up this guys mixes are, '200 Best Dancehall' is probably a more accurate handle. If you've not checked out The Heatwave's sensational FACT Mix or, for that matter, their classic 'Piano Riddim' single, do so now. Bringing up the rear, and making it shake while they're at it, are the Patchwork Pirates - purveyors of lazer-bass, crunk and every bastard permutation of hip-hop you'd care to name, and the promoters of the awesome Thugs 'n Hugs parties. Oh, and let's not forget your faithful FACT DJs - who'll be doing their best to mix Zomby into Hall & Oates into Omar-S, and suchlike.

In summary: join us on Sunday 22nd February, 3pm-late, for a long day and night of top tunes and FACT-curated revelry. Entry is F-R-E-E.
