A bit offtopic but - how do you start laying the notes down - melody or chord progression first?

I know it probably varies from person to person but I just learned a bunch about theory and am trying to find the best way to apply it!

sound design. there are things you can do to create more suspense like risers and such but when it comes down to it your sounds need to be powerful and full, deep and dark, or whatever you're trying to go for.

Like reso says, a lot of a little, meaning use really low settings like mentioned above but setup a chain of ohmicides that can shape your enhancement.

EDIT: I'd like to see if anyone has any tricks or tips with ohmicide, would be interesting and helpful.

the rokit 6's if you include tax and mopads/stands which are sort of necessary will come out to around 500 or less.

hmm I would check all your export settings in both daws and make sure they match up. Besides that I've heard this rumor too but I really think it comes down to logic's raw samples. Maybe someone should upload a ableton export vs. a logic export of the same tune and we can A/B it.

Make sure you isolate your monitors with mopads or stands...very necessary. My desk drowned my bass out (from where I was sitting) so I would have to play it really loud, unknowingly rattling my entire apartment complex. I broke my neighbors fishbowl.
