Hey guys,
Some of you might dig the "quasi-record" I put out fairly recently as Hissy Fit, 6 2-song EPs released over 6 consecutive weeks. Some housy bits, some techy bits, some bass music bits. XLR8R and CBC-Electronic both had nice big writeups about it, which I hope means it's good. Your call ...

Hissy Fit - FingerVox EP
Hi all,
Some of you might dig these tunes. They''ll be coming out pretty soon, should have more info to give in the next few days.
Soundcloud
Weirdo 4/4 thing, which is pretty much what I do these days.

North Atlantic EP
Hi all,
Just figured some of you might dig a couple of tunes I just did as North Atlantic - it's relatively slow (112/117bpm) housy stuff:

Nice!
Just curious: did you get the 12" mail order or did a local shop stock it?

Hissy Fit mix n tune.
Hi all,
Figured some of you might dig this mix. Kinda walks the line between house and bass music.

1 Oriol - Night And Day [Planet Mu]
2 Jill Scott - Golden (Wookie Vocal Mix) [Epic]
3 A Made Up Sound - Wire [Clone]

Like! But then I would....
Also, for those not feeling the garage, the original mix of Crosstrainers has mainly a dubstep feel.

Poirier interview on the Make Some Bass production blog.
Hi all,
Figured some of you might be interested in the short interview with Ghislain Poirier just up on my Make Some Bass blog . It's him talking about his track "Marathon":

Impressively basic setup, IMO.

Re: Snares. Any suggestions?
You're misunderstanding what I want. I don't want something specific that I've heard before.
I want the opposite of the huge, multilayered and overcompressed snares that are all over dubstep, not any one specific snare.
If nobody has any suggestions (barring Knell - cheers for that) then that's ...

Re: Snares. Any suggestions?
As in, to just sample them from other people's records?
I've nothing against that, but I don't find it's that time-effective. You import the tracks, you isolate a hit and export it, then after 5 min or whatever you only have one single hit.
I turn to sample pack people to do all that shit for me ...

Snares. Any suggestions?
I'm thinking it might be nice to add some more snares to my arsenal.
I've been using Vengeance and Urban Fire samples a lot of the time and they do the job just fine, but something different would be good. I guess I'm looking for the opposite of those two.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi DSFers,
For those of you that are feeling the future garage-kinda stuff - or even if you're not - the latest post on the Make Some Bass blog features Submerse and Resketch talking about how they made their track "Get Away":

Re: Using a sampler as a wavetable synth
I used hardware samplers for years and when I think of the pain in the ass it was to transfer samples back and forth by SCSI or, god forbid, floppy disk, I thank my lucky stars that I'm using software.
It's true that the sound of the filters often isn't as good as, say, my old EMU e6400, the ...

Re: Reference Artists For Arranging
This track, from (oh lord) 8 years back, is a classic example of a track that hardly does anything but still manages to be interesting (on a dancefloor at least):

It builds to a plateau and stays there for a few minutes hardly changing, then changes the ...

Re: Education & Careers in the Music & Audio Industries
I second the going-to-London (or your nearest regional dance music centre) and going out a lot (essential on many levels) but there's no reason to take drugs, unless it's for the joy of getting fucked.
I've got nothing against drugs, but if you're hoping to do some networking at a gig, avoid the ...

Re: Education & Career Paths in the Music & Audio Industry
I did a two-year program in recording at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, Canada.
Twelve years later, I'd really recommend doing a good engineering program to learn the technical shit. It's made the stuff I make (like in my sig) infinitely better-sounding. Going to Fanshawe was one of the best ...
