Re: Ma' Setup [Pic Heavy]

So, anyways, OP - Do you sequence your synths with the mpc(s)/maschine and record multitimbral parts live? What's your workflow like? I've just gotten a hardware sequencer (mp7) and literally just midi'd it w/ my KS4 today for the first time. Trying to figure out how to send program bank changes and...

Re: headphone reccomendations for a project studio?

I got some beyerdynamic DT880 pro 250 Ohm headphones that I use exclusively (living in an apartment and all). Love them, but just as important is a decent source. Find out what rating your headphone jack is (max Ohm output) and go from there. i got Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1 because it said ...

Re: Reaper 4 Released!

That project I just referenced was running no problem in 3.76, then would totally rape my cpu in 4.0. And I rendered the whole song length of the drums to a stem track, not a loop, so I can't really comment on that (although that'd be nifty). The one I was referring to (the stem track rendering) is ...

Re: Reaper 4 Released!

Noways - I don't have much other DAW experience, but I love working with audio in Reaper. I'll do my break mangling and midi stuff in Buzz and then bounce out to Reaper just so I can do the little audio additions (samples, one offs, etc). And it's really good for resampling. Get the SWS extensions. ...

$10!? I got the $20 one, totally worth it. I've been getting my head around it recently. Such a thick sound. Don't know if I feel the need to spend $50 though.

Re: CBR and VBR Encoding?

somewhere along the lines another format will take over. MP3 is just convenient because so many people use it now (especially the masses who aren't musicians/producers/audiophiles). As much as I want to convert to .flac it's just too much to switch over now, and when I'm cruising along in my car wit...

There is definitely some promising new freeware things out there. But Im with Par & Wub right now... mastering z3ta+ and only using reaper natives and variety of sound plugs.

Re: Hardware vs vst?

You can make good sounds with software. You can make good sounds with hardware. I will say that my hardware synth (Novation KS4) does give me a huge boost in workflow. It's so much more fun (imo obviously) to tweak the sound with all the knobs and sliders (and limited menu diving) and then record st...

Re: hardware used in early garage production?

Yea, I love jungle and it took me a while to figure out how they used to produce it. There's this dude who still makes it oldskool style and posts videos of his amiga octamed files playing under amigajunglism on youtube. Sick stuff.

Re: hardware used in early garage production?

EL-B's production mastercalss he only used hardware for the synth sounds... cant remember what synth he was using though, but he'd just grab a few note samples off of it and hit his DAW. JV-1080 and JP8000. Don't ask why I remember that - great video though. And, I remember him saying his computer ...

Re: The Big z3ta Thread

z3ta's multi sync/free oscillator option is great too. it turns a single oscillator into 8. meaning you can have 6 x 8!! Nice! Didn't know this. Love this synth - just hate tweaking with a mouse.... Also, z3ta+2 - although I don't feel any need to upgrade http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/cakewal...

Re: I've had it with relying on software.

Try some different software demos, you may find one that suits you better. I used reaper exclusively for over a year, but have basically realized that (=for me=) it's better at multitracking live instruments, so I record with it like that and make more "organic" stuff in it. On my quest to...

http://www.buzzmachines.com Low cpu, freeware, really interesting. Sure it might not be logic but if you're only looking for a stop gap solution while your mac is tuned up then it's perfect. Nice one. Thought I was the only one who'd recommend Buzz. It's a choppage monster - check my thread on it. ...

Reaper does have a mac osx version you can download. From there you'll need to find AU's to go with it.

Re: Free Portable Music Studio (v3)

One could, but Reaper goes on the basis that if you stick with it that you'll buy a license. I think it's pretty obvious when every time you open it there's the pop-up about it. Plus..... Reaper>>>>LMMS (no offense) And if I were to recommend a free software suite it would be Buzz, but that's not qu...

Re: Free Portable Music Studio (v3)

Well, since we're going public, hah... I would vote to pair it down a little. I think the amount of plugs in over whelming for newbies. Yes, there's a need for all the specific ones, but I think a simpler spread would help a lot of people get their head around the basics. 1 Synth (Prob Tal Noisemake...
