Re: Back to the core, Sub bass and Drums

Need chunkier hihats. They all sound hipassed to me. Kick/Snare is beastly (snare could use a wett clap voer the top maybe).

Re: Would you mind helping me with learning?

Don't layer basses like that.
Cut up old funk breaks and use their original groove for good shuffles.
Cheap an cheerfull way to 'automate' lfo speeds is to just bounce out a few bars at each speed you want and cut them up in audio.
You want a spectrum analyser. I think fruity's built in EQs have them.

Re: Need help writing deep lyrics...

Think of the simplest fact you know and say it loads. It's the profound nature of the simplicty that makes skrillex's track so deep.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

Ascian - Funky bass. Think gating that pad a bit before the drop would give it more impact. Maybe a fat snare his too just before. killerz - Good sounds, but I think the bassline melody is too upbeat. Should play around with a closer grouping of notes rather than going up and down the board. Find a ...

Re: Anyone can download your tunes from soundcloud!

Soundcloud should have a 'watermark' tick box when uploading that would put a robotic voice saying 'soundcloud' over your track every minute or so. Would save the artist the hassle.

Light percussion is good. Can wet that up with some delay business too.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011

@debaser nices one mate. I would say if you want to go the extra mile on this track I think you should change the bass at 1.36. The issue is the main riff at the drop sounds really good when you first hear it but gets slightly old upon repetition. Instead of goin back to the drop riff it might sound...

Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK IS NO MORE

To be completely blunt, the responsibility equally lies with the thread starters to make sure their stuff is worth posting in the first place. Every time someone posts something crap that's another thread cluttering the dub section. If no one leaves feedback it usually means they didn't like it. Peo...

Re: What makes a good producer?

Persistance. And the ability to assess your own work accurately (if you're bass is shit you should know it). As they say, you only fail if you quit.

Re: How do you get the time?

Just carve an hour a so out every day or two. Say when you're takin a break from coding. You'll gradually be able to build a decent tune while having fresh ears for it every day.

Re: Genre breaks?

Dubstep is actually my 'break' from dnb. I also like to make general down tempo weirdness.

I find when writing a type of music I don't listen to very often you end up being a bit more original cos you got nothing to rip off :)

Re: DSF Q&A Sessions Vol. 18 - Threnody

Nice one definately taking the whole 'spend a long time on a track thing' on board.

Edit; guess I'll add some Q fodder.

- What's the best tip you ever got?
- What's one thing you wish someone had told/taught you (in terms of production)?
