I'm actually really good friends with the guy that says "damn son where'd you find this." He had no idea people were using that sample until the other day. He even did us a killer buddah drop back in the day.

Been making a lot of growls lately. Here's my take on the SMANS drop.

It's best to just use audio when you collab imo.

Re: How To Sound Like Skrillex & Make Skrillex Bass
For you guys having problems learning fm8, I would suggest either Blue or Operator. Both are great FM synths and are much easier to understand imo.

Re: Resampling is not the answer.
I only really resample to mess around and edit what I have already made. There are things you can do with audio that you really can't do with midi.

A good tool to use on snares is the free camel crusher plug in. I use it on almost all my snares to give em some sizzle!

Re: Snare mixing problems
Here are a couple of things I do:
Run the snare thru camel crusher and mix to taste
Parallel compress the drums
Try that and it should help. If you absolutely need to, sidechain your basses to the snare to dip the volume of everything else while the snare hits.

Re: Still not getting 'half time'
Just produce at either 140 or 70. It makes no difference at all. At 140 the snare is on the 3, at 70 it's on the 2 and 4.

You could also count some heavy triplet dubstep as 6/8.

Drag the audio on the timeline. When it's audio, you can warp and adjust stretch and pitch more easily.

Re: How to make Dub Drum Beat Shuffle, and DubStep Music
Just go on and pick up Massive. It gets a lot of flack around here, but it is a great synth that does many things well and some things better than anything else.

For the kick drum, I use audio and drop it into the timeline. For everything else, I use drum rack.

Alot of their stuff, esp early stuff, is based on samples. That's why I found it so funny when daft punk fans were saying that Kanye West was ripping them off haha. I love daft punk tho. Been a fan since I can remember.

Just make what you think sounds cool. At 14 you probably aren't going to be churning out anything major yet anyway, so have fun with it!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this sub-forum. The problem is the regulars and their feelings of superiority towards others. Honestly, who gives a crap is the same question is asked over and over. It's easier to not reply and move on than to take negative actions and ridicule the poster ...
