Re: Boxcutter Appreciation

I have been listening to his last album on loop for the past few months. I just love how funky it is, but it still manages to keep it intelligent. I can just listen to it over and over.

Re: free brostep synth for ableton live

Cool stuff, not sure why you guys are hating, but this kinda inspires me to start making my own racks. Ive just never been big into assigning knobs to racks just because it seems a bit repetitive but I really like how he switches between those formants.

Re: Monitors...

Sadly it seems like people have started buying and reviewing STUDIO MONITORS for their home listening pleasure. Can you recommend a pair? and do they actually have a flat bass response in my uninformed opinion you cant actually hear how the bass will feel with headphones.

Monitors...

How important are they to the production of listenable music?
This is my passion, but all i have are these logitech speakers, they have a lot of bass but obviously not a flat frequency.

Bottom line is should i get monitors? Do all good producers have them? And if I get them do i need a certain size ...

Re: How do you start a track?

^^^ most of that stuff is in my default project, but I start in ableton session view with a drum loop and usually chords, maybe bass. I would imagine the big guys start with drums and modify them if the need arises to fit the bass.

Re: Writing in key/key qualities

Yep those are the notes in C major.

and I'll add that because music is about ratios, the tonic key doesnt really matter except for how it relates to the range the instrument. But for dubstep, some keys must be better than others because you probably want the root or the fifth to be the hardest ...

Re: my million dolla sound system..jelly?

Does a million dollar system really sound any better than a 100k dollar system?

And does one of those sound any better than a 10k dollar system?

There must be some extreme diminishing returns going on here. And I have a feeling that the placebo effect must play a part when people compare high end ...

Re: musical theory to dubstep

So lets say you're jamming with your mate and he's playing a chord progression containing Em, G and Am in the key of Em and you decide to play the harmonic minor scale. Do you just improvise over that scale playing the notes that you know sound well together, or do you take into account what ...

Re: musical theory to dubstep

My theory has always been 'doesnt matter how skilled you are, if it sounds good, youre a genius', but i genuinely think that even just a little bit of thoery runs a long way.
To be honest, it's not even theory, it's instinctiveness and knowing your instrument. Me and a few friends meet up every so ...
