Re: Your stance on torrenting and downloading music.

hey just figured i'd add my two cents cuz this showed up when i was doing a search, and i haven't posted in forever.

Music (and the world in general) is convuluted by money.

In the past, you used to buy albums because it was the most convienient way to get a bands music.

In the present ...

Re: need help

hey boss. you do need some help :)

first, w dubstep, there are no rules as to what you need.

Logically, you will probably need a DAW (digital-audio workstation, i believe) to write your tunes in. alot of sounds in dubstep are made (or adjusted) using tools found in pretty much any DAW.

examples ...

Re: Breakdowns, do we NEED to have them?

Yeah Jig I get what you're saying, but like Phigure pointed out, you said without wobble it would just be 140 bpm electronica. I understand that in order to describe a genre as a whole to someone you would need to make generalizations and reference stylistic conventions, but it must be understood ...

Re: Sampling movies...

i can just click the part in the movie, then i'm getting something alot closer to 1.14kbps audio and i know that if i'm orchestrating an 18 instrument piece then i won't get low quality fuzz chewing up whatever headroom i have

simplistic stuff you have the opposite problem, whereas you can hear ...

jesus christ, i think you're taking that photography analogy waaaaayy too literally

oh, and you weren't saying that wobble and snare on 3 is simply somewhat of common characteristic, you said it was required:

if you want to get philosophical.. dubstep does have some things needed. if you ...

Re: Breakdowns, do we NEED to have them?

why do all these nubs post on here ask how to get "wobble bass" if it is not a signature of our genre? Because they're noobs duh. I think your confusing 'core characteristic' with 'cliche'.

I'm with Phiggy on this one, dubstep is a feeling, not a sound. The only real themes I'll acknowledge are ...

Re: Breakdowns, do we NEED to have them?

really? you'd call the aforementioned album Triangulation dub?

You'd call it this?:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdpuJRpdheA

obviously genres act primarily as a rough label with which one can identify music and ...

Re: Breakdowns, do we NEED to have them?

Sure, you won't classify it as dubstep, but anyone who knows music would. Listen to Scuba's Triangulation. Twelve tracks, no wobble. Yet I, as well as loads of others would call it "dubstep". And there's tons of other albums just like it, wobbleless, yet as "dubstep"-eque as any album that has ...

Re: Breakdowns, do we NEED to have them?

if you want to get philosophical.. dubstep does have some things needed. if you record without oscillation or natrual wobble on any of your tracks, you're just making some brand of techno at 140. if the majority of your beats do not have a snare/clap on 3rd, you're probably not making dubstep.

So ...

Audacity

+3

can't be easier than this. audacity will allow you to see the sound file as it records, the way i find easiest, is pop on the thing i am sampling, dvd is REALLY easy, audacity will record straight from whats going to your speakers (stereo mix), so just play the lone movie ...

Re: can someone please teach me how to properly use a limiter?

if you turn down the elements and the mix stays out of the red and you're happy with it-- sorted.

pads are great to play around on w/ compressors and limiters, especially ones that oscillate. see how much you can limit an oscillating pad before it distorts, and see how your perception of the ...

do you dj or just use like ableton in some weird way?
I think this is the answer to this thread

amen.

p.s, bpm = beats per minute, beats, are beats, they are not whatever you'd like them to be unless you live in daw land and feel you are arbitrarily greater than math. dubstep, record at 140 ...

Korg Microsynth + Fruity Loops 8 = MIDI Trouble.

Okay, so i waited like 2 weeks to get a midi cable from ebay.

cgi.ebay.ca/USB-MIDI-Keyboard-Interface...-/370148058682 (the cable looks identical to this one).

The instructions say it (the midi cable) has built in driver plug and play capability, so i hook up the in and out plugs to the in and out ...

Just to throw another idea into the pot..

I sometimes use 4 instances of massive in one project, each with the same patch, but with different settings. You can have a different lfo rate for each one, and or different timbres.

Think my PC is an Althon 64, 1Ghz*, with 1GB of ram and it does it no ...

I'm using reason, and i only say that because you can't use VSTs and all of your downloaded effects like you would know,

would it be better to use the thor formant filter + lfo or env mod or use the scream digital filter with lfo?
ive tried to use the scream but its a lot harder to make the sound ...

You ahve to be able to record, idc... drawing a whole brostep tune worth of auto in event data would kill me.

i agree automation is more efficient, but, linking controllers, patches etc are advanced fodder, for someone who's not very strong with fl, you can fight your way through custom event ...

other than using my midi controller - are there any easier methods of drawing automation out or being more ...
