Transferring Logic files to a harddisk?
I hope this doesn't sound too retarded but it's a bit of a specific question. I recently got myself a harddrive for backups but also for making space on my laptop by moving my sample library + logic/audio files onto it. It's an fairly good 50gb that will be removed from my computer... hopefully it w...

Re: A Question from a Frustrated Beginner...
Look, you can't 'picture' or 'know' what each insert is going to do to a sound, eg distortion, compressor. Each sound is different, and practice makes sure you have a gut feeling that cerrtain effects will make certain sounds good... guess what that's called? Experimentation! You can only hear the d...

Re: New to production need feedback please :)
Welcome to dsf, but read the forum rules first mate... tracks wanting feedback go in the dubs section http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewforum.php?f=23
WIP go here -> http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=190115 (you've got to give feedback to at least 3 other people first)

I'm pretty sure you have to be a premium member or something to delete tracks. If you don't want people to see them, you can set them to private.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
My monitors and headphones are in repair atm, so I'm listening to everything through shitty laptop speakers... so bear with me. @BenJonesLikeWhoa It's a bit hard to comment on mixing on my speakers atm, but the first one is way too overlimited. I can hear definite improvements with the 2nd one, it's...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@weedcali Mate, this is a really deep track... sounds great on my speakers, can't really point anything on to improve on... maybe the kick could be a littler louder? Eq or sidechain other elements to make it stand out more. PM me when it's done, it would love to chuck it in a mix ;) @nftfhx Got myse...

Re: What's your secret production weapon?
plugin chains. splitting every reece in 4 separate buses of certain frequencies, throwing lots of phasers and distortions on one range, then cutting a big chunk out of its eq. throw bandpass on. automate. seems to work. btw, I don't see the point in using downloaded patches, especially ones from com...

Re: how do you make your basslines?
When I've got a 'neurofunk' (stupid term) reece going, I normally just record for about 8 bars and use glide to its advantage... I just play random shifting notes (relatively sticking to key). Then, after automating it with a filter (eg bandpass/rejects work well with a combination of a dry signal, ...

@EDN Mate, it's happened to me too many times before. I can't tell what your WIP was but I've commented on one of your tunes, nothing to critique about it, its a solid track: some mastering or mixing could really perfect it. @orca Yeah I think I've commented on your track as well... but listening to...

Re: y-Axis shifted Waveforms
Aren't they just left and right channels? If a waveform only has on 'up' amplitude isn't just a left channel (or right) channel output only? I've bounce out panning basses from time to time and the same effect happens (waveform shape). I think the y-azis shift you're talking about is just the a litt...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@LukeRaith That vibrato in the melody is really nice touch, and that really bubbly riser fits really well in the track. I'm listening this through headphones atm so mixing wise it might sound a little different, but atm the sub is way too soft and the track feels a bit empty. Also I think the whole ...

Re: how to know when you are going overboard in composition?
It's the subtle things that the pros do that make it sound full, and it's one of the most difficult things to get it right. Normally I create and resample some wicked bass that I chop up and arrange and I don't want to layer it with any other compositional elements. In the end, it's going to happen ...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@Ascian It's unmixed? I reckon you've hit the levels on the spot. The drops fine, some risers would be good like you said, but the sound production in this is really unique :) The intro sounds like its missing something... maybe swap the snare in the intro for a really light, woody one? Oh, and eith...

Re: Why am I so terrible?
I think the pro's songs usually have fewer musical ideas than beginner's songs, but the pro's put way more work into what is there . Like beat by beat there is tuns of nuance, and they keep shit moving, constantly changing things. Now, you might not even be hearing what you like about the songs you...

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
@Dreadfunk: sounds proper mate, really top notch. Can't really point out any flaws, build up is perfect imo... maybe a switch up at 2:13? structure and flow is really happening, just could have a tad of variation (not that it's repititive or anything, just could do with a bit more) @fds: The intro s...

Re: 'Screamo' Samples/Acapellas?
Well, I only just read the posts weeks after the latest post... Please don't assume that I listen to Skrillex. Because I don't? I've never listened to a full released track by him. I've only heard segments of his mixes on youtube every now and then. All I needed was a screamo sample for an intro... ...

Re: ES2
I always avoid es2 lfo, it never automates well and always seems to phase to different positions in the bar... try using the Autofiler, much more control. Come to think of it, I don't think there are any sine wave lfos in logic... shouldn't really make a difference though. If you can't find the righ...

Re: Scorn/Meat Beat bass?
first video is actually quite easy imo, I managed to get a similar sound through massive but it could probably be done through any fm synthesis... It's really only 2-3 detuned square waves, modulated through 1. a band reject with a fairly tight bandwidth and positioned fairly high up the frequencys ...
