Re: Turntable for non-serious aspiring DJ

I have to agree about the comments about technics they are the best but like you said they are a big investment especially for someone that only want to do it for a hobby....No point spending stupid amount of money on something that you aint going to use that often.....

Just get some cheap direct ...

Re: Turntable for non-serious aspiring DJ

Find some used Technics, I got 1210 mk3's with flight cases and needles for 700$ used and I've had them for about 4 years with zero problems. As much as you want to cut a few hundred bucks off the price here or there, it'll benefit you to have Technics simply because they will last you forever (Dad ...

Turntable for non-serious aspiring DJ

Allright, so I have shit load of vinyl, though most aren't dubstep or electronic. Over the past few years, I've
gotten into dnb and house and while I wan't originally interested in learning to dj, I have started considering it.
The one issue I have is that everyone recomends technics turntables that ...

Re: Vinyl or MP3

I really didn't start this thread as a debate between vinyl vs mp3's as I still think vinyl is far superior to mp3s, cd's, 8tracks, etc. I was just wondering after years of being a record collection of punk and hardcore records, whether it was a smart financial choice in comparison to mp3's. In ...

Re: Vinyl or MP3

Well, I don't listen to punk or hardcore anymore, so I kinda do regret having a lot of records of a musical style which I don't listen to anymore.

Re: Vinyl or MP3

If it was purely for listening purposes though and not mixing then I would get mp3s of new tunes

When it comes to older shit, I can definitely find good stuff by digging through crates. It's the newer stuff thats the issue.
I'm not mixing, just throwing it on a old 70s record player just to ...

Vinyl or MP3

I've been collecting vinyl for the past 8 years, but recently I'm rethinking vinyl.
If I'm buying a new 12" for $10, I could instead get maybe five mp3's for $10. So
I'm left wondering if I've just been scammed for all these years.

For mp3/vinyl peeps, how do you justify what you buy?

I'd like to ...

Turntable advice

First, let me say that I am not a DJ and have no plans of becoming one.

However, I buy lots of vinyl and have generally listened to my records on a
old record player that I found at a thrift store 6 years ago. That player is having
some issues and I need to replace i t. I'm wondering if anyone ...

Re: newcomers -> introduce yourself here

Hey folks...I'm new to the forum. I'm into house and downtempo, but I like some techno, grime, and dubstep.

Been listening to electronic music since I Kosheen released the Hide U track back in the day. However, I just listen
and don't try to create my own sounds, and I don't dj.

Re: The big fat ''how do you get your music'' poll

I live in the middle of nowhere in the US, so I use a lot of online distro's, namely forced exposure and chemical records.
If I lived someplace like Chicago or NYC, I'd probably do a lot more buying at record stores which specialize in house, downtempo,
dubstep, etc.

Re: Any good magazines.

i've been reading mixmag for 10 years. wouldn't have ever got into DECENT electronic music had it not been for them and their cds. i remember their first article on dubstep suggested the vex'd album as a highlight of the genre... it was my first dubstep album and what got me started! large up ...

Any good magazines.

Can anyone reccomend me any good techno, house, or dubstep magazines?

I've heard that Mixmag and DJ Mag are crap.
I occasionally read WaxPoetics, although that's more of a funk and hip hop magazine.

Are there any good magazines out there?

Re: Best online store or mailorder in US to buy house 12"s

Seems like no matter what, sites like Redeye are the cheapest way to go even when living in the states.

Yeah, it's hard to find good techno or house records from Europe for cheap in the US. I buy most of my stuff from Forced Exposure, and they are fairly priced, say generally $11 or $12 for an ...

Best online store or mailorder in US to buy house 12"s

I'm aware of Forced Exposure and have bought from them in the past, but what else is there that's good.
