Re: Personal workflows?
I often start with atmosphere's, working off of the tones inherent in the sound, or audible but oftentimes vague melodies. Then sub to introduce some z plane action which is then accentuated by percussion of some sort. It varies between that and starting off using kontakt (my preferred sampler ...

i fully agree with you ChadDub, it's more mental mixing then objective mixing which I feel is more important.

Re: Preamps?
Ok thanks for the clarification.
Is there a software patch (freeware if possible) that exists that might help me in this situation? I'm broke as a joke.
But an audio interface is now on my wishlist

After I blew them out, I redeemed a warranty and got a new 2.1 system of some standard computer tweeters + sub.

Re: Scared to step outside the box?
i think it comes down to something along the lines of a "money or personal creative satisfaction?" dichotomy. the creative satisfaction side of things is a gamble with one's own pride and honor at stake. i would use Tom Waits as an example of success in the latter category. his style is in a class ...

Re: Anyone willing to share your ableton templates, drums?
i have my own drum template which includes 3 kickdrum channels intended to cover the low-mid-hi ranges, and a snare, hihat and random percussion channel.
the kick drum channels include a large library of various kick drum samples divided on the basis of their timbre (kicks with lots of mid, for ...

Re: isotpoe ozone multiband dynamics/compression
i've done this before, and was told that the lowend was overly compressed. it's a bit overkill looking back. a secondary compressor would probably squash some of the dynamics

Re: question bout sub, bass layout & arrangement
a pro would be you can modulate the sub if it's seperate to your midrange synth/sound of choice. as of late i've used a template that expands on this idea, with an instance of albino as my main sub unit and an instance of kontakt with 4 blank internal modules routed out to 4 channels in ableton ...

taking breaks rule hehe. i usually listen to really random music, anything besides dubstep, and i eventually get inspired by whatever it is i've been listening too in some way, and then i get motivated to make dubstep.

Re: Been producing for x years, and i still dont know how to
quite honestly i was so excited to learn everything about ableton when i first started using it that i just never spent the time to learn how to sidechain haha. i'm aware there is a sidechain option embedded in the native compressor, i just haven't gotten the feel for it. it is humorous

sidechaining in ableton. its hard
and i still don't fully understand the concept of compression, despite using it liberally. i credit my knowledge of compression to distance's tutorials on utube

this. mine blew out this past month however, but they were good for a full year. sound is great, and it's a great price, considering the range and quality of them.legend4ry wrote:Sennheiser HD25.

i'd imagine they sit on their tunes for months until they've created something incredibly complex. war in the making is still the heaviest dubstep tune i've ever heard. the artifacts in the synthesis are inimitable.
