i've been reading 'the idiot's guide to music theory' in my spare time recently, it's taught me a lot and i'd definitely recommend it, though it can be difficult to self-teach yourself at times it IS pretty all inclusive and covers deeper topics like accompaniment and chord phrasing. i feel the same ...

if ya wanna be a wanker sidechain anything that's playing when your kick/snare hit to allow 'em to punch through better, play around with volumes of the tracks until the effect is as gentle or dramatic as you want it to be. a lot of producers do it to make their drums stand out in the mix better ...

i usually start by rolling off below 50hz, and then turn my frequency knob upward while soloing the track until it loses most of it's looow end (75-110hz usually). from there i'll listen to the track w/sub and play with it a bit from there. i like for my sub + midrange to mesh together to preserve ...
