Re: Dj crossfader within Logic Pro environment

you should use the logic tremelo or xfer record's LFO tool on both tracks and invert the phase. the logic faders lose resolution at the lower end because they cluster the midi values around 0 db. MIDI has terribly low resolution which is a huge drawback to the environment versus max msp.

Re: Mixing/mastering High Frequencies

its common to roll off highs around 15k when mastering in digital (this happens naturally in the analogue world)..waves renaissance eq with a high q will clean the top end up very well. a lot of times hip hop mixtapes will sound like sh*t because they didn't get them mastered and didn't roll off the ...

Re: battery users

1. check the delay effect on the master output
2. check the 'echo' effect in the setup window for the cell
3. check the battery options and make sure the sample buffer is the same between your DAW and battery

Re: How do I know what key things are in?

I guess I'm thinking too much into it... but whenever I make a drum pattern, shit just does NOT sound good at all. It sounds very robotic, quantized and.... well crap. I cant seem to make it sound good, let alone "realistic"

you aren't overthinking it, making beats is an art and you just have to ...

Re: How to Seperate Vocals to make a remix of a song.

yeah i mean i have no idea how he does it, but the only way to "unbake the cake" as you put it would be to use the differences between the stereo channels (like old school panning). never got soundforge (mac user) but ableton has a ms option on the eq which is what i was using. there have been ms ...

Re: How to Seperate Vocals to make a remix of a song.

I think burial exploits the stereo image. I fiddled around with the song that the beyonce voice in "distant lights" and managed to get a lot of it through eqing out the sides. Waves sells this "center" plug in that basically amps the voice in the center of the stereo field which some studio techs ...

Re: Who would you like to do a producer Q&A, and why?

Mala - Because he is one of the best producers in this scene. I would love to find out his work flow and how he goes about doing things. I dont think he spends long on making bass patches but more about melodies. His tracks are very musical and he appears to make them very fast.

+1

Re: Should I buy a studio mixer?

Or you could buy a strong audio interface instead, with good AD/DA converters, take the whole mixer out of the equation unless you really feel the need for one.

yeah I don't know firsthand but have been told that unless you go all out and buy a $3000 converter the extra AD/DA layer will make the ...

Re: headphones vs. monitors

also bass response on headphones isn't ideal. it just cant be possible because bass waves are long and require distance to hear them properly.

and also the stereo image will be more noticeable on headphones because each side is isolated from the other.

but think about it: are you doing a track ...

Re: ABLETON SAMPLER HELP PLEASE!!

Ableton's inherent timestretch functions are quite advanced, so just drag the drums into an audio track set to the new tempo you want.

yeah the timestretching modes in ableton are amazing but i work with individual hits (not breaks) and its too hard for me to tune the drums unless i hear them in ...

Re: ABLETON SAMPLER HELP PLEASE!!

read the section of the manual on instrument racks

you should also use another vst for drums because sampler doesn't have a stretch function (like battery)

Re: Ableton Operator vs Massive

lol i think ableton is dating test recording's ex. this should be on the production forum but whaever...Operator isn't quite as bad as test recording is making it out to be, but yes its not as good as rapture/z3ta or the papen synths. the waveforms are not fantastic and the filters are just ok. the ...
