Re: Tell me your favourite EQ & Compressor

Hmmm, I thought a lot of people would mention The Glue.

So seen as i'm an Ableton user and the new native compressor is basically The Glue and the EQ8 is getting an update, I'm now thinking I shouldn't bother as I plan on upgrading to Live 9 anyway...

Re: MIDI Pattern for Complex Basslines

A trick I use:
Bounce out the notes that you want to use / have used for your bass line. Do this for each synth sound you want.

Load up your sampler and assign each sample to their appropriate key, but each octave is for the different synth sound. Now you can jam away with 4 or 5 synths without ...

Re: How does Gemini have such a powerful impact on the drop?

Production wise, and as I think someone has said, you could emulate the Gemini style pretty well by implementing all the tricks and style and trance producer would do, but at 140bpm.

Nexus 2 would be an obvious choice if you want some of these types of sounds.

For sure, in my example it acts as a stereo widener, harmonic exciter and compressor - with subtle settings.

Re: placing Izotope Ozone in FX chains

I have an instance of Ozone on my master (turned off) as part of my default template.

Once I turned it on and left it on by mistake. I started recording melodies and bass lines into new channels on ableton, forgetting when solo'd they were getting the Ozone treatment.

It definitely sounded way ...

lost a fucking huge post about my brief experience with tapes, tl;dr they give a nice punch from 100 to 300, not that harsh sounding as digital, don't know about sub bass but you should do it, there's more to music than quality.

Yeah, but at the same time if I lose the sub bass frequencies ...

Re: What new thing have you learned this week?

Synth tip for Ableton users:
Been bouncing out all the really nice synth lead patches I've made into Ableton's sampler, all of them stacked on top of eachother.
Set the chain selector so that all take up their own spot (for non ableton users - this just means that the sampler only plays the patch ...

Bass sample packs

Gooooood morning everyone.

Looking to purchase a good sample library of multisampled sampler instruments and 1 shot basses to stretch across an octave or 2. I mainly synthesize my own sounds, but really keen to get a nice fresh set of sounds to manipulate and help build up my core instrument ...

Re: Parallel Compression vs. Multiband Compression

Don't think anyone mentioned, with parallel compression, you don't have to reproduce the audio track twice if you don't want to - set up a send channel with your compressor on with the aggressive compression settings. Now using the send amount you can control how much is applied to each channel you ...

I love the 100-110 range and there's an absolute stack of quality glitch hop and ghetto funk out there!

There's even some stuff that combines the two.... like er.... my stuff! Love it!

So much music that combines elements of a wide variety of music right now, which is great i think.

I do like ...

Pretty much all DAWs are good these days, it's all about your preference and workflow.

I switched to Live a few months back and my productivity and creativity has gone through the roof. Just work out which one works for you and all will be gravy :)

Re: ableton templates, workflow, etc.

I've heard good things about ill gate's template but I don't like the trigger finger. Would that be worth paying for? I kinda doubt it, but hey I dunno.

It looks pretty good from the video demonstration and I think the general ethos/workflow makes a lot of sense.

One thing I wasn't clear on was ...

I've actually stopped using for main production tasks - I had a number of tech problems they couldn't fix and their support was very weak to be honest - it took them over 9 months (9 months), before the team dealing with my issues popped up and said "we're going to refer you to a Studio 1 specialist ...

Another thumbs up for them - again echoing the help they give on the phone.

At least three times I've called them asking for advice, then gone and done my own research and found that their immediate answer was solid.

Rinsed!

Try the brutal electro preset (gasp), lower the filter cutoff slightly, some external distortion and a bit of compression.

I'm no expert but I reckon that would work.
