Re: Reason 7
creativity can really spawn from limitation tho echo wtf. best work situation imo is when most limited, make use of my tools as best as i can and get creative as i can. I'm totally on this side of the limitation argument, as far as my own work goes, and so I find Reason very satisfying to use. Anyw...

Re: Popping sound on sub bass
No, I never bounce stuff. If I did it would probably frequently make my life easier, but at least currently I prefer pure synthesis, no audio clips. Good tip for others though.

Re: Popping sound on sub bass
or just put a lowpass filter at the end of the signal chain? works in reason lol Yeah I often have a problem with this in Reason, so as many others have advised, I turn up the attack and release a bit. I generally want that fade-in sound anyway, and it helps accommodate any drum hits happening at t...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread
Haven't posted on this forum in a while, been getting my head down on the production side of things. So here to revive this thread with a question. Skudges lead synths, a lot of them have a similar sound as in the following tune. Any tips on achieving that sound? I personally can't decipher what so...

Re: 100bpm
I've gotten swept up this winter in Andy Stott's relatively glacial "knackered house" on Passed Me By and We Stay Together . Even before I really immersed myself in those, I was realizing that I prefer 4x4 at slow tempos, from maybe 85 up to 110 bpm. A kick every beat fills a lot of sonic ...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread
Yeah just wanted to reinforce the bandpassing message for the wider audience. The Ekko EP is great, thanks for the tip. Also glad you put up "Croydon House" cuz I didn't know of it before and it's superb, really like that 4x4-halfstep-sub-bass fusion. I'm taking a second close listen thru ...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread
A lot of my synths for example come out sounding quite musical but i'm trying to aim for a more hollow dark sound I second q-t's above response to this vis-a-vis strong bandpassing. I'm currently finding that saws, squares, etc that are allowed to retain their fullish frequency spectrum sound exces...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread
I have always wondered a bout a few sounds, maybe you lot can help me. ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4BCB-Vs4BA <- The little stabs what come in about 1:40ish http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPazLnEwyVY <- what kind of kick is that? I'll have a go at these last two, which I don't think q-t tal...

Re: how do you visualize music?
Color's the strongest single visual response for me, sorted by frequency: sub-bass and silence black, higher bass blue/purple, mids red, mid-highs orange, highs yellow, highest frequencies (e.g. hats) white. Noise is gray because it's a more or less uniform mix of frequencies; the more resonant a no...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread
- Many techno tracks are very minimal and rely on the fact that the listener imagine he hears stuff. The listeners fills in the gaps in the groove by himself. Very subtle delays, reverbs and heavily filtered percussion (can be anything really) all contribute to this. Yes! Love it, this puts things ...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread
The cloudiness of both of those arises from a mingling of bass frequencies, which I can think of three means of creating: reverb; detuning; and bandpassing noise. You're right, they're both very far from a simple sine frequency. The Dettmann kick really sounds just reverbed to me - it sounds like th...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread
Ah, thanks for the heads up on that thread (link for reference) , looks great. Yeah, I now find sub-120 and especially sub-110 to be my favored tempos for 4x4 - the kicks start to seem too dense in the more traditional, faster range, unless they're sort of smeared together like in that Ben Klock tra...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread
That synth (the quick-attack one) sounds like pretty a simple waveform - maybe saw, possibly square - with a pretty much constant high-resonance filter, check my earliest post up the thread for further talk on that. As for perc, stay experimental, try out all kinds of stuff, maybe focus on sounds of...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread
Nice tune. Yeah, the sub-bass frequencies sound pretty constant in that. What if you tried an actual sustained sine sub synth (with Subtractor or Thor) and then put kick samples over that, high-passed just enough to remove their sub-bass? If the two sat well together, you might get that nice subtle ...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread
Agreed, nice to have these dub-techno synth sounds talked about here, because I've been thinking about and working with them a fair amount recently. One simple thing I've found useful for getting evocative timbres is to set a filter (LP or BP probably) on the synth to a fairly high resonance, but no...

Re: anyone inspired by zomby?
It's kind of an old technique, similar to fading out. The basic idea is to leave people wanting more, and it kind of makes you feel weird too, like JBE mentioned, so it sticks in your head. Also calls for some rewinds! Yeah I find that that helps me want to listen through the whole album as it make...

Re: Moombahcore/dubstep influenced moombah
Oh and curiously enough I've been working on a 108bpm house track today, before seeing this thread - but I think it's more slowed-down 4x4 garage than moombahton. (I think.)

Re: Moombahcore/dubstep influenced moombah
one of my biggest pet peeves is when people call grooveless straight 16th electro bangerz, "House music," when honestly that style takes waaay more influence from trance than it does house.. why isn't it called electro trance? Good point. Actually though, the use of "electro" in...

Re: Reverb usage (Room size)
Forgot about this for a while, sorry, here is the direct download link for the combi. The combinator is just a holder, its contents aren't routed through it, so I don't know if you'll have to manually make a track for the Subtractor inside it upon loading. If it turns out messed up or empty or somet...
