Keeping the mix spectrum full through out your track

hey all, just interested in your take on this, we've all been there - created a great 16 bar loop, that's really full, and fat, and then come time to arrange it, when you inevitably try and strip stuff down early on / at the end, it tends to feel weak and empty... do you tend to write in extra parts...

the mixing inside the box one is a great introduction to the core principles though - if you know very little it's a great place to start...

hey all, try this - get a compressor on a snare, not lower the threshold so it's doing 30 dbs of gain reduction or so, put the ratio up as high as possible and turn the attack and release time to zero ( oh and obviously turn on auto-gain or boost the level so you can hear what's going on)... yeah, just checked it, and inside the box is great! the one I've linked to actually fits in nicely - as it talks about complimentary EQ as a way of separating 'splodges'...

I remember getting into rawkus records, jeru the damaja, MF DOOM (the first time around on Fondle Em records - I have the original pressing!) mobb deep, artifacts etc. and feeling like I'd missed the golden age of hip hop, but boy was I wrong... if anyone needs some uber nerdy 90s hip hop recommenda...
