Re: Making synths wider with panning.
There is no hard or fast rule however I keep my bass frequencies mono. I only do heavier widening to my sounds on their frequencies over 1200hz. Everything over 200hz for me is stereo though. I just don't purposefully widen sounds below 1200

Re: Making synths wider with panning.
If the tracks are identical, duplicating and panning doesn't actually do anything does it? oh. hahaha. The easier way is switch to Ableton where intrument racks and busses are plentiful. im on Ableton but recently just switched so im still getting used to using instrument racks and stuff. iv...

Re: Making synths wider with panning.
My way of processing sounds to make them wider is this: I use Live, so I will group the track and create a few chains. On one I will low pass one and use a Utility plug to make it 100% mono. Over 120 hz to 1200 hz i will keep it a stereo but add some effects to that chain only. Then on the other cha...

Re: Layering basses and wobbles
yeah, i think there might have been a misunderstanding. sorry, i wasn't clear enough. When I make my bass, I will split the frequencies. anything under 250 mono. over 250 won't be panned but i wouldn't be opposed to adding some slight widening effects, but no panning for sure. The high frequencies i...

Re: Overall Production Tip/How-To's
Don't stop practicing. Music production doesn't come to you within months or even years in some cases. Make it your passion. I'm friends with a well known producer, and he told me he started making music in 1982 and got is first break in 2001 or 2002. Thats 20 years man! Basically keep making music ...

Re: Out of tune oscillators, music theory?
I typically like to stay away from dissonance in my patches, so I will typically stay in octave increments. However, there is nothing wrong with creating an oscillator that goes up a fifth at low levels to get my frequency spectrum to fill in a little bit more. However, I would highly suggest that t...

Re: Layering basses and wobbles
I would seriously avoid panning my basses. That shit should stay mono for sure. there is also nothing wrong with duplicating your sounds and throwing different effects on them to mangle their waveforms a bit. Don't forget to frequency split as well. This is super easy in Live btw.

Re: When you send a track to a friend and ask for feedback..
Personally, I don't give a fuck what anyone really thinks about the sound of my track. Its all artistic expression in the end. However, tracks can have holes in them. I usually send my track to a couple really good musician friends of mine to let me know if they hear anything glaring out at them.

Re: Make an 80s synth with Massive?
Its alright guys, like many others that have come across here, people want someone else to do all the work and teach them how to make a sound that most anyone can get close to in less than 10 minutes. Its called laziness. I found that when I stopped trying to sound like someone else, my sounds got b...

I agree with much of the above, however parallel compression and multi band compression can both be used as a mixing technique as well as a sound design technique.

Re: maxed CPU vs workflow - when to bounce to audio...
Here is what I do... I have some crazy ass chains going on in my channels and I tend to have some crazy shit going on. I will make a sound from an idea. Then when my CPU goes apeshit, I will do a collect all and save in Live, and then i will freeze and flatten the audio. Then what I do is save the p...

I dont look at it like a business, but more like, if you got some scratch, hook a brotha up. If not, I'm sure a thank you would suffice. Besides, hopefully the bread me and some other cats can give him can get him some doper software or gear so that he can make sicker shit.
Just a thought.

@z6z all good man. Shit just takes time. Its like asking someone to come up with an idea for a track, an intro, and the peak in 1 day. Not everyone can do it.
