Re: Skrillex reveals details on how he makes his basslines

Ableton has vocal formant filters built into the default audio effects, I'm guessing you don't have to memorize exact frequencies haha.

Re: Making songs less repetitive

Make the drums interact more with the midrange wobble, I feel this helps a lot, especially when you are changing up the wobble every few bars. You should probably have a strong kick drum or snare on every new variation of the midrange wobble. Also, try adding some negative space. Having a midrange b...

Re: Sample Packs / Melody rules etc?

Always been curious as to how artists like Pretty Lights and Michal Menart (hell, all of PLM) navigate using the melodies and samples they jack from actual songs (not just sample packs). I understand he gives all of his music away, but its for sale on iTunes as well.

Re: how to make that 'wow wow' sound

Sounds like a resonant low pass filter with an LFO.

As for the synth, it sounds like its a minor chord slightly detuned.

Re: Dj'ing Dubstep with Midi Control (ableton)

I think that skrillex (and when I've seen deadmau5 to a certain extent) get carried away with the midi FX because the set is premixed. If you are bored behind the decks I'm sure you will try to enhance the showmanship a little.

Re: Bass Cannon Tutorial (Massive)

If you wanted to achieve the gliding effect heard in bass cannon you could edit envelope #1 on all of the pitches as seen on the oscillator view by bringing that value up to around 5ish and then messing with envelope 1, if that makes any sense.

you can automate the envelopes and LFOs how you want, but thats the basic sound coming out of massive. didn't really muck with it too much for that song.

Re: Bass Cannon Tutorial (Massive)

Seems to be all about formant waves when it comes to achieving that screechy whistle bass sound. not saying I nailed it either, but with a formant saw and little else i got the lead for this song (brotip- skip to 52ish seconds for the bass). I can upload a screenshot of this preset if people want. h...

2:10ISH on in this song zeds dead has this BADASS sounding bowwww sound. I'm not necessarily asking how to achieve the underlying synth tone, but i hear this effect a lot these days. I'm wondering how these guys are doin it? Anybody? :w:

Almost 100% sure that the pantyraid effect was achieved using the VST "Stutter Edit." Sounds like one of the preset banks.

Re: EQing Drums ?

You can go into the Drum Rack and apply an individual EQ8 to any sample within the drum rack. Usually I keep my drum tracks separate though for ease of applying FX and then bounce them down to audio once I get a sound that i like, because MIDI uses more processor anyways.

Re: Creating a sick ramp wobble?

this probably won't be very helpful, but I've found the ramp shaped filter on massive creates really shitty sounding wobs. sometimes adding distortion from a program like camelphat can help thicken up the sound.
