Wondering how to make the kind of basses The Aliens UK uses all the time...
I think it's an FM or Ring Mod sort of thing in Reason and I stumbled across a noise similar while tweaking knobs once, but I can't seem to get the same sound again.
Sounds like this:

Re: Hard 'machine gun' basses? how.
try taking your bassline and exporting it as an audio file, re-import to a sampler and then adjust the amp envelope so it cuts off nicely, then play a bunch of fast notes

Re: The Reason Q&A Thread
Wow coming back to my own problem after more time with Reason im now realizing a simple solution... Pulsar to CV input of combinator then into the combinator programmer and use CV1 to modulate phaser frequency. BOOMehbrums1 wrote:Or you can use pulsar

Re: The Reason Q&A Thread
Learned something cool the other day (as inspired by Props new synth in the online store)... you can take a synth and hook it up to a vocoder so it acts as the voice and modulates another synth. If the vocoder were a more transparent this could be a game changer.

Re: Wubs - Requake, megalodon, p0gman
The common name for a "wub" bass for those literate enough to understand it, is called a wobble bass, or at least that's one common name for it, not "wub". :a:
How about focusing on defining how the sound is made, not what to call it. If you can't get past that, you're not getting anywhere.

Re: Exotic squelchy wobble (Skream, Bro Safari)
A waveform with a lot of harmonic content probably square wave, LFO bandpass with resonance, phaser on the higher end, add some crunch around 3-5k and spread the high end outward

Re: How to make your HP bass thicker?
I can't listen to the exact sound as I'm in a lecture, but this is for any high-pitched sound;
Look into boosting the content around 100-150Hz. Not just with literal EQ boosts, but possibly with distortion. Another way (which I usually use) is using something like Waves RBass/MaxxBass at around ...

Yeah I got some nice sounds from Reason.. It's the automation that turns me away from it. :(
:q: :q: :q: :q: :q: :q:
Seriously you can do more automation in Reason than you can with any plug-in.

Thanks all, this has been incredibly helpful I appreciate it.
Sub isn't too weighted, is it? Also I'm gonna try dropping main wobble down an octave n see what happens.

Hey everyone, here's my newest track I've been working on.
Done in Reason 7 using one instance of subtractor for the bassline and some automation.
I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making the track.
Constructive criticism greatly appreciated!
Please feel free to ask me about the ...

Re: First attempt at dubstep. [Feedback please]
Sounds pretty good with the automation and composition, but the bassline seems pretty muddy sounding.
Try using multiband distortion to avoid distorting the 300 HZ area so heavily.
You may want to EQ out around 300 HZ as well.

Favorite Reason Oscillators
For the Reason users out there, name a few of your favorite oscillators across Reason's synthesizers and why.
I'll start -
Maelstrom:
Juno/PWM for creating fatty, low passed, moving basses.
Fuzz Harmonics/Breath Voices for distorted bass, layering. The waveform sounds pretty gross when you load ...

reckon you can use any FM synth to get similar results...
My recommendation is to find a nice group of oscillators that FM nicely together first (usually sine wave sounds cleanest as the carrier, but always experiment). Once you have a nice ...

Re: The Reason Q&A Thread
Hey I'm a little confused about the rate CV pot on the phaser.
I wanted to synch it to an external LFO and it sounds like the CV sent from the LFO triggers an increase in the on-board LFO's speed.
Is this correct?

Anyone have favorite RV7000 patches for use on midrange basslines?
I need a catalyst for inspiration, if you will.
Cheers

Re: Simple way of adding fatness in Reason with Scream
I don't get too fiddly with tape compression in Scream unless its just to pull back a little compression.
I slap on the Tape 499 Scream patch and that's my starting block. Really brings some life to your sounds.

Re: Reason - fast useful updates but way late to the game...
I've had no qualms with Reason 7 so far...
Parallel processing is the shit
Spectrum analyzer is the shit
Comping is the shit
time stretching is the shit
It's all stuff that could be done outside of Reason before 7, but the way in which Props implemented it is what's great.

mid/side mastering in Reason. FRIGGIN' B-E-A-UTIFUL. Reason always surprises me. Using Thor for phase inversion? Just... dang.

because you might not like how a stock filter sounds for what you are trying to accomplish.
because not everyone is made out of money and can buy additional plug-ins or relies on pirated software.
because you can make something tailor-fit to your needs that suits a similar/same purpose.
