Re: Question about Studio Cans
I guess that leads to another question... The K240s are 55Ohm impedance phones. Which (to me) means they *can* be used on portable media devices (laptop, mp3 player, etc.), but what does that lack of power mean as opposed to being connected to an audio interface? Like, will the tunes just not be as ...

Question about Studio Cans
OK so I got a new pair of AKG K240-Studios, and they are my first pair of studio headphones. Newb question- are they suppose to sound like this? And by 'this', I mean flat and borderline scratchy, allllmost making the music sound bad, or 'naked' is a better word perhaps. I realize the point of studi...

Re: Graintables
And also, this may seem like a stupid and/or obvious question, but... would granular synthesis just be the same as say, taking a sample and slicing it into small bits and cut them a little to add some spacing? What's the benefit of the granular modulation as opposed to using this method?

ASIO and VST question
OK so I can get ASIO to work fine in Ableton. And when it opens, it says v2.1. However, my z3ta only pulls up ASIO v2.0, and none of the "+" pull outs are available beside my output sources, so I can't route it the right way = no sound. How do I fix this? I don't see any options or anything.

Re: Recommendations for Mixer?
Maybe I worded that wrong. I want to virtually mix my tracks from Ableton. And this would require a mixer, yes? Send tracks to corresponding channels? I thought this would be the same concept.

Recommendations for Mixer?
So I'm in need of a mixer, but I don't really know how to compare and what makes one good/bad. My main utility will be mixing my tracks straight out of Ableton. I will be using little to no cd's at all. Preferably not. Could someone give me some ideas or recommendations to start looking at, or at le...

Re: FM Algorithms
awesome. that makes a little more sense now. bc it's not simply 2 waveforms smashed together as that could get rather ugly. there is some sort of function that allows them to be harmonic to some extent and that's what id like to know. but your explanation helped clear that up a little. :4: onward wi...

Re: FM Algorithms
well, first of all - it IS that complex if you're new to it. can't expect ppl to just know everything man. you had to learn as well.
also, i didn't say 'how does fm work'. i asked how one osc modulates another as per their respective algorithm. bc that's a much different concept

FM Algorithms
Question about FM algorithms in synths- I understand that one oscillator modulates another, modulates another, etc etc... But how? Say you have just a basic sine wave. Adding another sine wave (or any other kind really) with no detuning and no crazy envelopes, produces an entirely different sound as...
