Re: Dirty production?

It sounds to me like the drums are super lo-fi with some sort of band pass filter on them and dirty reverb, but there are a couple of elements there which are really hi-res and clean - like the pads and the vocals. Also that really dirty lead synth sounds like it's been put through a guitar amp or ...

Re: Mastering..

It's so hard these days to not squash the fuck out of your tracks, just because over the last 10 years commercial music has just been getting louder and louder at the expense of dynamics. So people kinda feel they need to master super loud just to compete.

However, as blinx said, if you don't ...

Re: Attending club nights and bumping into producers

Around this time last year Eskmo was playing a local bar, so went down to see him (he played an absolutely sick set, so inspiring!). I got there quite early so was just chilling with some mates who had come down too, and he was just walking around the bar. I just went up to him and started chatting ...

Re: Atmosphere + percussion

You could try glitching them up, or using glitchy loops, also use filters and LFOs on them too

Re: Couple of monitor questions

yea i have senn hd25s for dj'ing due to greater bass for beat matching but those DT770s look awesome, you have the 80ohm version?

I've got the 250 ohm ones - the 80 ohm version give you more bass, but I found that the it was a bit too overpowering in them compared to the 250 ohms. The 250 ohms ...

Re: External Audio interface help

I haven't used one for a while, but I remember it being pretty solid on Mac (not sure what the drivers are like on PC), and the sound quality was very clean. The mic and line inputs were great too compared to other budget interfaces. It only has one headphone jack though, so if you need two ...

Re: External Audio interface help

If you can stretch to an extra $30 or so, I'd really recommend the Focusrite Saffire Pro 14. You can get one used for way in your budget though.

Re: Couple of monitor questions

To be honest i've never used the premium version - but a mate of mine has just got them so i'll let ya know. I've been using the DT 770s for a good 5 years and never looked back. Great for DJing too when you can't hear shit!

Re: Question to fellow logic users

I always use a combination of Kontakt for programming beats from samples. Still like to use a midi keyboard to play beats in rather than programming with a mouse! I also cut loops up in Recycle and import the REXs into Stylus.

Re: Mastering- The Magic Secret???

even if you're a fully qualified mastering engineer, someone else should really master your own tunes. the idea is that they will look at it objectively, which you can't do as you've been working on it for ages and it means something to you. always good to get a fresh pair of ears on it.

+1

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros are great for producing on. They're closed back but very comfortable and the sound quality is fantastic.
