Re: Why do I Feel Like my sounds suck?
“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But y...

Re: How much do u listen to your music while producing?
sometimes i just have to step a away after it playing for so long Its always good to take short breaks and give your ears some time to reset. We have a knack for killing the "magic" of a song listening to it over and over ad nauseum. So if you find yourself just looping the same thing ove...

Since you're using Ableton I'll direct you to the Auto Filter in the Audio Effects folder. Then take the advice of the previous posters.

Not to mention they have hundreds of free videos online: http://www.youtube.com/user/dubspotdifference wrote:dubspot is what you're looking for. however, as stated above you are much better off spending the money on quality hardware and self teaching.

Re: Why can't I finish tunes?
I would dive into my synths and start doing sound design. This is creative murder. Understand the relativity of that statement. Tracks can be inspired simply from tweaking on a synth, or layering a few sounds together. You have to find what works for you. These hard and fast rules are ridiculous. E...

Re: How to remix?
Typically for remixes (be it from an official competition or the producer knows you and wants you to remix a song of theirs) you'll be given the stems of the song. Stems are essentially what you're curious about, the separation of instruments for the entire track, each instrument would be in a separ...

Re: iLL Gates is a Genius!!!
Glad to see DSF on the ill.methodology workshop! I payed for the full workshop on his site a few weeks ago and he has absolutely mint advice for budding producers.
I've never payed much attention to his music apart from his collabs with Bassnectar but he certainly knows his way around EDM production.

Re: use of chords.. help?

Re: Why can't I finish tunes?
If you're a perfectionist. Stop it. Your tunes are not and may never reach a point where you can say "wow, I'm EXACTLY as good as I wanted to be". When writing a tune (and this took me too long to get over) sound design should be left until the end. If you have a melody in your head, put i...

Re: What the F bro...
Your basslines have to make sense when you're stitching them together for the "drop". Doesn't matter that you're working with hugely wonkey and distorted sounds, its still got to have something driving it forward. Rhythm. Flow. Listen intently to the guys already pumping out tunes that you...
