I'm going to go against the grain here and say DON'T learn chords first. Play one string at a time; get a feel for the notes. Then learn what a power chord is; and "enhance" each note you're used to being played on one string by playing the same note using a power chord across 2-3 strings.

Re: Too Much EQ'ing
If you have to eq a sound to the point you have 9 Eq's is it even worth using that sound?
EQ should be used for mixing, not sound design. I try to use as little EQ as possible, it makes the composition better if everything sits in its own range without EQ.

Re: How do you go about producing emotions?
Picture an image or scenario in your head and write what you think the background music for said image/scenario would sound like. Look at film scores and video game music.

Re: Resampling
I used to despise resampling, but it's made things 10 times easier. Bouncing to audio allows for consistency in sounds when you have a lot of modulation be it from LFO'd filters or effects that change over time. The way my bass sounds after being played for 2 seconds isn't the same as it sounds ...

Re: Resampling
I'm pretty lazy so I try to make my basslines as close as possible to what's in my head without needing to bounce, lol. but if I have to then I will. usually just to save on cpu.
I find that certain things are just 500 times easier when you're dealing with a bounced audio file. You can splice it ...

Just thought I'd mention:
Regularly check the original post.
I'll update it often with new information, and not to mention that I keep getting asked questions that are answered on the first post.
I've decided that this effort will go all the way and we will try to get all 151 Pokemon. Not ...

Haha, one would imagine, yes. I'm going to keep things fresh/interesting, though! If I can help it. I'm completely in love with this entire compilation idea.

Re: Mastering Loudness Trouble
If we start at the mixdown which is where you'll be able to gain a lot of "loudness potential" there are a number of thing that can be done to gradually build up loudness from the word go.
The main things 3 that are going to trigger the compression/limiting at the mastering stage are

Re: Mastering Loudness Trouble
mastering and mxing = two seperate notions.
there is no doing it right. mastering yourself is like grading your own math test. it doesnt work that way.
good mastering will cost you around the same price as a single person bag of green. pay for it.
Allow me to rephrase the question for you then ...

Mastering Loudness Trouble
Before someone links me to the giant mixing/mastering thread; I'm well aware of its existence. I can't find a detailed answer about what exactly my issue is, so I figured I'd ask with hopes of an honest, helpful response.
Where is the middle ground of the whole "loudness war" situation? What I mean ...

What kind of dubstep are you looking to work with? The oldschool, laidback kind; or the newer aggressive stuff? Throw some artist names out there. I might be interested.

Re: Brostep / Skrillex and the Forum.
Might be being stupid here, but what have Aphex Twin and The Streets got to do with dubstep anyway?
I know who Skrillex is, but I only know 6 (maybe 7?) of the 9 on the other side. Guess I'm what's wrong with the scene.

Re: Metallic sounding basses in Massive
Make a bassline like normal, then duplicate track, put reverb on it, turn the mix to 100% wet or a bit less, mess with some reverb parameters, slowly bring the fader up over the dry track to your liking

Been playing for around eight years now :D. Proud owner of a Jackson SLS-3. Tabs are super easy to understand, if that's what you're asking. I would recommend checking out www.ultimate-guitar.com. They have a massive tab library.

Deathstep - Club Drug (Electro/Metal/Disco)
Not sure what genre to toss this track into, but it's the first "real" track I've ever made with quality that's decent enough for me to be proud of. Made it with a lot of help from this forum, which I appreciate very much. I was going for an electro feel with an "epic" outro, and I played all of the ...
