I'm trying to figure out a way to route audio out of ableton through a pedal rig and back into ableton to a recoding track. For example a bass line ran through a guitar pedal. if you're on Ableton, i like using Clapbox from Pure Magnetik (get that here: http://www.puremagnetik.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=42&Itemid=217 ) which is a free live rack! you can then strap on a grain delay with the delay time set to around 30-50ms...

a good tip is to actually use a synth with a shitload of high harmonics for a really bright sound (for instance in Ableton Live, i often use Analog or Operator with sawtooth waves, and i mostly bypass the filter entirely to get as much frequency content through to the vocoder).
