Re: punk rock
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oqb1iB0TAqU I'm a huge Misfits fan. I recently discovered The Adicts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV5-KhZMOtY Dead Kennedy's are one of my favorites as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIqESwzCGg4 Aaaand, Atom & His Package, indie-punk I'd say. One-man ban...

Re: The DJ Thread
Just picked up Deep Medi Releases 1-3, great compilations that are totally worth the money. I had a question about chiptune songs, the kind created with 8 or 16-bit audio sources. I downloaded a handful of free EPs from Jahtari (http://www.jahtari.org/music/net7inch.htm) that are all different kinds...

Re: Lucid Dreaming
A lucid dream is any dream in which one is aware that one is dreaming. The term was coined by the Dutch psychiatrist and writer Frederik (Willem) van Eeden (1860–1932).[1] In a lucid dream, the dreamer may be able to exert some degree of control over their participation within the dream or be able ...

Re: scifi books
I'm surprised that Isaac Asimov hasn't been mentioned in this thread. One of the OG's of scifi writing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Asimov I would recommend "I, Robot", The Robot Series (4 books), and his most famous work, the Foundation Series (Original Trilogy + Extended series, 7...

Re: The DJ Thread
So, after a few weeks of DJing, I've decided to ditch all my crappy youtube rips and support the artists I like. Just today I bought 50 Tracks of Tempa https://bleep.com/release/37960 , Kode9 - Backwards/9Samurai, and Youngsta - Masai Mara. After thorough listening, I've realized how much better WAV...

Re: The DJ Thread
So I've been practicing, I'm to the point where I can string two or three songs together. Figuring out beatmatching still, but I heard of a method called "riding the pitch". Up until I heard of this, I was using jogwheel frequently to bump the tracks back in time, and then adjusting the pi...

Re: The DJ Thread
Pretty much what baddis said: bar goes 1 2 3 4, beat match the 1... doesnt matter if its a snare, kick or kazoo. What I meant by beatmatching the snare, is that I beatmatch in my headphones with beat 3 instead of beat 1, since beat 3 is usually a snare and easier to hear for me. Of course, I know t...

Pulled the trigger on a Mixtrack Pro, cuz I can't afford decks/mixer. I will be liberally re-mapping the controls though, including sync, as I feel like sync is cheating. Same with waveriding. Is digital still worse even if you don't use all the crutches? Obviously it is different from manipulating...

Re: EPA admits that fluoride is toxic
3. Theres a lot of hot air in these articles and it is so lazily put together from a scientific point of view. I would like some proper access to journals. Currently the recommended limit on fluoride is 0.7 parts per million. Some states have this as 1.2 parts per million (still absolutely nothing)...

Re: What makes a track good for you?
Oh yeah, I mean I make all my choices on music as to whether the snare is good or not I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not, but what I mean by good snare... is that if there is a song that is borderline great in all other aspects, a beastly snare can push it over that line into greatness for me. T...

What makes a track good for you?
I've been trying to introduce my wife to dubstep, but she dislikes certain things about dance music that define what dance music is; she particularly dislikes how repetitive any sort of dance music is. I really appreciate a good snare drum, and I prefer songs that show progression throughout the son...

Re: The DJ Thread
Great responses in here. I'm enjoying reading about everyone's most memorable times, some good humor there. Does anyone have a particular "vibe" that they like to play? Such as, Be-1ne tries to push the dance very deep. It seems like decks are the major choice for this forum, and it's unde...

The DJ Thread
I used forum search and didn't find any thread dedicated to DJ talk, so I'm going to start one. For the sake of discussion, here are some sample topics :) What equipment do you use? Any planned equipment upgrades/changes? What songs are you rinsing lately? Have you DJed any large events? What other ...

Re: 'Ten shot dead' at Batman film premiere in Denver
If there a ton of knife-related crimes in the UK are you stating an opinion or posing a hypothetic situation? ie which auxiliary verb are you missing from your sentence: is or was? The correct verb would be "are". The "IF" in my sentence poses a hypothetical based on posts from ...

Re: 'Ten shot dead' at Batman film premiere in Denver
Banning guns just leaves guns in the hands of people who got them illegally. Criminals don't follow gun-control laws.
If there a ton of knife-related crimes in the UK, why doesn't everyone just carry around big-ass knives? There has to be some way to put victim and criminal on equal footing.

Skated from early teens til 18. Never was any good, all my friends were way better. Best trick I had was FS boardslides, real consistent. On flat and down stuff too.
Joint pain in my knees and hips now though, doubt I will ever pull my board out of my closet again.

Re: Coki gives up vinyl, switches to CDJs
That may be true, but what is mixing really? Beatmatching two tracks together, knowing when to nudge a track, how to fix a trainwrecked mix, making your blend sound pleasing to the ear, knowing when to drop or add in frequencies, when to use effects, learning and knowing the structure of the music y...
