Re: [Compression] Can someone PLEASE help me? Very frustrate
Ok so what I've gathered is that SC adds weight to the track, so not to judge it by the waveform there. Does there look like any significant problems are in the waveform I posted of the mastered project in audacity or does it look relatively normal? I just want to know if I need to re-mix it with l...

Re: Mastering Etiquette
So I've been wondering, would it be an outlandish request to ask a mastering engineer to let you know exactly what processes they used on your track? Also, would it be kosher to request they use certain processes, such as analog limiting or analog gear? I just don't know where the line in the sand ...

Re: Studio Monitor Speakers
best sort your room acoustics first before investing in monitors. it doesn't have to cost the earth. see how your current set-up sounds after that. Afterall you are probably hearing alot of your room reflections. waste of money spending money on new monitors if your room is bouncing sound all over t...

Re: Sampling drums - pro's and cons
Layering kicks: listen for phasing, check correlation, try working in mono (i've noticed many stereo kicks, if summed on a mono system, they can lose body/weight), if you are losing something by layering, you can try shifting by a few samples to see if that helps. Ideal scenario would be get the rig...

so many approaches you could take,'which I'm sure will get a mention on here...simply though... ...make music and produce. I haven't checked out your examples, but a good punchy mixdown should sound 'punchy' even at low volumes. It's a shame to compromise your sound design and production and introdu...

Re: getting a track ready to master + mixdown questions
(again, sorry for my english) I've been trying to put an EP together for the past three months so I have to actually worry about whether my mix is ok for a sound engineer to master or not. He told me he wanted it to be between -6 and -3 db. The thing is, I always do the mixdown while I write the tr...

Now I'm sure this can't be right. You guys are gonna be like.. "your a fucking idiot, who does that, learn to mix", But the thing is it sounds really good to me. Any seasoned mix/masters have some advice? A paradigm shift in what listeners want? Giving the illusion of a 'powerful' soundin...

Re: A noobs question about mastering
Basically I have finished a remix for a competition and obviously the mixdown and mastering is the next stage to make it sound phat (without killing it), but I am no expert on mastering and have no idea about it. The hosts of the remix say they would get it professionally done if it did indeed win,...

Tracks pressed to vinyl are mastered differently? yeah it was hypithetical, are vinyl masters affected by this loudness wa...

Re: Best Online EDM Mastering Services Under $40
(i'm refering here to dubplate mastering, i guess it's not much different with digital mastering) the process will have some added considerations, (i cant speak for transition's process though) but it will be optimized for a different (and physical) format, more thought given to the stereo field fo...

You can lose dynamic range, raise noise etc (depending on the compressor and how it is used).GuerrillaWarfare wrote: I've heard compression is a big no on the master but that surely can't be true?

I know a few guys charging £20-£30 for masters that don't have the gear safe and sound has and use ozone and t racks. I won't name and shame them but this I what I see as mastering robbery. if they have the best monitoring set-up and treated rooms that money can buy (in addition to their experience...
