Ah, heavier bass. Make it super wide (use a chorus, with a very slow rate and high modulation amount), scoop down some of the 600hz region, saturate the 100-300hz region, and couple it with a mono sub bass (use a harmonic-editing synth like Operator, have a full fundamental and another harmonic jus...

Ok, the best way of doing this is playing notes in a 1/12 pattern. And, guess what? the secret to the sharpness is GUNSHOTS! it's called a machine gun bass for a reason! take gunshot sounds, distort then if you need, and line them up to the notes of your bass. it's easy and is still heavy! Don't do anything as concrete. Don't go for a certain sound and apply X amount of effects to sound after sound thinking it "sounds better."
