Re: EQ questions (Cutting highs/Boosting)
Have you ever tested your range of hearing? I generated some sines in audacity one time and I think around 17.5kHz was the highest I could hear. So then somewhere around there would be a good place to lowpass everything. I usually only hear hi hats occupying that range. Do any of you guys use graph...

I listen to music on ATH-M50s. Will they work for production?

Re: when will you play through your speakers?
I'm in a college dorm. Generally wait till about 11am to start blasting, at stop at around 9pm on weeknights, and 11 on weekends. the RA told me the last time she knocked on the door that it was "unacceptable." i sheepishly said okay, but the next time she knocks on my door i'm going to te...

Skream track recommendations?
I like a few of Skream's tracks, like Filth and Oskilatah, but I'm trying to give him a proper chance right now. I started listening to brostep about a year ago and have since been slowly getting into deeper dubstep. So any track recommendations?

Re: How do you EQ dubstep?
when you use a parametric EQ, the "Q" controls how large the range is of frequencies to be boosted. a narrow Q will look like a spike, a wide Q will look like a round lump.

You can see it throughout the video, and at 0:35 if you don't want to watch the whole thing.

Re: System - Lights (Exact Remix)
i like the drop a ton. i think it could come a few bars earlier though, i don't think the extended buildup is that necessary. i also think the drop in the middle of the song could be a bit shorter. i think it would sound better if when the second drop comes in, the bass wasn't faded in. it would be ...

Re: Dafuq - Lighter
i really like the hard synths starting at about 0:30. however, i agree that they should come in with the drop. i also think that they should have some midrange bass or sub backing them up. i also don't like the midrange wobble.

distance gives a view contrary to what's mainly being given here. he thinks subs should be audible on systems without subwoofers, so he brings out some harmonics. i'd say i disagree with his view, but i think it should get some attention.

Re: Recommend a subwoofer!
you could try getting headphones which produce down below 20hz. would be a cheaper way of seeing how your deep bass sounds.

Re: System - Lights (vSQUARED Remix)
I like it allot. The vocals are a bit back in the mix, more than usual with dubstep vocals, but I like it that way. It puts an emphasis on the instrumental portion.

How to remix?
Hey, did a few searches on this; couldn't find anything. How does one go about remixing a song? How do you separate the instruments out from each other so that you can work with them individually?

Re: Heavyweight Synths
I haven't read through all 9 pages of this thread, but I plan to start making electronic music soon (been playing guitar for 5 years) and I'm going to buy massive and the most basic ableton package. I assume that I'll need to buy another package than massive to get a good range of synths? or would m...
