Re: Is it a sin to use others' patches in the production wor

Cool thanks for the responses dub bros. The main reason i felt kinda weird about is cause I didn't know if it was an acceptable thing to do. It seems most are quite ok with it and it has given me a good starting point and makes for faster arrangement.

Is it a sin to use others' patches in the production world?

I have always wondered this. I have almost completed my first dubstep/electronic type song and almost all my plugin presets are free patches offered by producers online. Is this a bad thing? I haven't mastered synthesis yet so any thing I try to make is generally quite bad. But with most of the patc...

Re: Ableton vs. Reason vs. FL Studio

Ive used Pro tools, Logic Pro, Fl studio, Mixcraft and Ableton Found ableton to be the best of them because of the easy workflow with plugins. Can easily modulate anything easily etc. Just worked for me. Pro tools is my second, but i dont like it as much for electronic music cos modulating shit in i...

Re: Avicii - Levels Opening Synth

I was watching a thing on you tube of avicii making a song (it got taken down afterwards for copyright reasons, but you can find a torrent on it ;)) He starts off with piano for his leads and does them as notes and then he changes the instruments to leads and synths and layers it with other synths a...

Compression, Limiters and Volume fades.

I'm pretty noob and i just recently read this article http://www.ethanwiner.com/compressors.html. Why should we compress/limit when we can just use the fader and automate it? I know people use compression for alot of stuff but isn't it just the same as turning down the volume of a track/sample? Enli...

Re: Getting a "muffled build-up" sound

Ok thanks guys. Reason i thought it was a hassle cos its such a simple concept and i spent ages trying to figure out how to do it on my own lol. I'm still learning and am finding some of the easy things in post-production harder than some of the harder things o_O. Was originally in bands and played ...

Getting a "muffled build-up" sound

Ok first timer here. Ok here goes, I don't see much tutorials on this technique; if you listen to skrillex's scary monsters and nice sprites intro you can hear the "muffled" intro and it builds back up to the normal mix - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSeNSzJ2-Jw&ob=av3e. I know lots ...
