Re: Zank - Threat (WIP) | Dubstep
i like it. glad to hear something a little different from the run-of-the-mill 'wub wub wub' and hip-hop influenced stuff. not that there's anything wrong with those elements. however with that being said, i would like to hear more going on. especially around :21.

Re: SavyNeal - Ayo Technology (Dubstep)
this is a good sounding track. what are you using for your bass line here? the one that does the 'wub wub'? and what's your DAW?

Re: Performing tracks live...
A friend brought his Launch Pad by my place and I played with I for a minute and I'm impressed. I'm definitely adding that to my live set up which includes a MacBook pro running Abelton 8, an Oxygen 8 controller and a guitar through a ton of pedals. Launch Pad seems to have the most diverse applicat...

Re: Performing tracks live...
Honestly a lot of acts who look like they are playing EDM sets live aren't actually doing anything at all. I saw girl talk at a fest and they had like 2 guitarists and a bass player. None o them were playing anything. Was total bullshit. Nobody knew any better though. It was hilarious.

Re: Who was the first dub step DJ / Producer you saw live ?
I'm sure someone is going to try and piss further than me by informing me that they're not true dubstep or something but the first live dubstep performance I saw was Bassnectar and Diplo in the blue disco lounge on Jam Cruise in 2007. 'twas pretty tight. Hung out with Lorin a bunch and got some good...

Re: Performing live anyone ?
Just play the music, Ableton 'live' acts are poop :) Unless you're actually doing stuff live, but 90% of them are not. (I just made this exact comment in the production forum) I'm talking about something altogether different from Dj sets. I do that easily enough, just mixing songs and chopping them...

Re: Performing live anyone ?
I'm looking for a new interface for performing live. What's good? Haven't played out in a while and I think there's something better than my Oxygen 8. What do you use? I'm running Abelton live, btw.

Re: Dubstep patterns?
try taking a song that you know is 140bpm and put it in ableton. then make a few bass lines and put them in the same positions as the bass lines in the song you have loaded into ableton. that will give you an idea of the patterns some pros are using. How anal are most of you about Dubstep being 140...

Re: Loops vs. original content
Thanks for all the replies! It IS the end result that's important but if everyone uses the same loops we're gonna wind up with a glut of shite. Slag the "how do you make skrillex bass" folks all you want but you can grow a lot more from that than piling together 20 tracks of Simone else's ...

Re: Deep 808 bass kicks???
Amazingly enough, Apple's Garage Band has a perfect 808 rig in it's hip-hop kit. Too bad it sounds like crap as a DAW on the whole.

Re: How long does it take YOU to finish a track??
Now that I'm more comfortable with my new DAW (Abelton Live 8 suite) I'm generally spending a week on writing and arranging and about 4 days on a good clean mix. Part of that mix time includes burning dubs and checking them on different systems. Mastering will be done by my mates at Masterlab in Orl...

Loops vs. original content
I'm curious about the ratio of pre-made loops vs. original content in other producers' tracks. My stuff is 99% original content from scratch. Occasionally I'll sample a piece of a beat or use a kick line from a Dj toolkit but overall I'm crafting my tracks from the ground up. Sometimes even creating...

Re: newcomers -> introduce yourself here
Hell-oh! I'm a n00b here on the board so I'll take a moment to introduce myself. I'm a 36-yr-old musician, artist and producer from the states. I've been making electronic music for about 13 yrs ranging from NIN styled soundscapes to nasty heavy dubstep. With my recent decision to release and perfor...
