Re: Make basses more seamless?
So should I just stick with the compression bussing and give that a try?

...Jesus Christ.
Should I spectrum analyze the kicks and notch each bassline when the kick hits?
Would overlapping the basses and do some volume automation fading on them make them seam together better?

Re: Make basses more seamless?
I'm not a pro at this either yet but a few things you could try are...
Bus your basses together and give them some light compression (glueing them)
Adjusting your fades so it's a more gradual transition from bit to bit.
What is bussing? Sorry if that's a complete n00b question.

Make basses more seamless?
I'm working on a remix of a Nine Inch Nails piece, and being a new producer, I'm running into the issue that the chopping between basslines is not seamless - the transition is an audible "jump" from one bassline to the next. As this is my first experiment with multiple basslines, I'm not sure on how ...

Solidus - Organ Synthz
First off, this is my very first ever dubstep piece done completely by me.
I feel good about this tune, and tried to keep it simple for a number of reasons. Mainly, I know I could have spruced it up with odd effects and filters placed in locations as well as maybe had a more dedicated bass-register ...

looking at Xone 42, need help figuring stuff out
Well, I've been DJing for about a year and a half or so in high school, and have acquired a bunch of entry-level equipment (speakers, cables, a soundcard, various mounts, and a Numark controller), and I'm looking to move up to some serious-grade gear for DJ work in college.
Anyway, that being ...

Re: Best laptop for DJing.
You can go with the Air and chain everything on. Plus it's lightweight, so you could probably throw it in the same bag as all your cables and mounts and whatever.
I'm using the full MacBook for most of my stuff, but the Air in itself is a full-flegdged Mac (albeit with some performance qualms ...

Re: I can't figure out how to make drops.
What I'd do in this situation is:
1) continue your sub bass through the drop to add depth and drop the floor of your music;
2) write your break after the drop. hard attack on your first notes
3) add a secondary drum loop and sync up some 808 drum hits with the start of the break (end of drop)

Re: Good grime tutorials?
Why not import some grime tracks into your DAW and attempt to recreate them? You will learn a lot this way (sound design, rhythm, mixing, arrangement and why it works). Plus you'll often develop your own sound as a result. Plus, grime instrumentals tend to vary as the genre has a lot of different ...

Good grime tutorials?
Hey all,
I'm looking for a good grime set of tuts, especially in the area of creating a good grime bassline. The nets are fairly sparse in the step-by-step of creating grime, and "grime tutorial" search on youtube yielded about 5-6 results of "Skrillex Glitch-step bass" right off the bat.

Re: Levels (in ableton) for basslines
uh, what? gain structure. why limit them?
It's not just slight fluctuations, it's major differences between one bassline to another that would come out in the master bad if left unchecked.
I only limit/compress if the sound is seriously changing in volume and i dont want it to. Some basslines ...

Levels (in ableton) for basslines
To make a big, drawn-out explanation short, I'm working my basslines in Ableton and the synths coming out of Massive are outputting at different levels. That is, the volume across the track is not even.
As I am chopping the pattern, is fixing this an issue of putting a limiter on each channel and ...

Re: 100% green to production, need help getting started
Okay, now that I have a drum pattern drawn out to around 15-16 bars or such and some white noise buildups (created with the help of YouTube videos and the good old fashioned experimenting and playing by ear ), I need guidance on how to create a particular style of sound in Massive.

140bpm
Kick on the 1 and the 9
Snare on the 5 and the 13
Hats on the 1, 3, 5, 7, etc
Basic Dubstep pattern right there. Adjust to taste.
Maybe for 70 bpm. For 140 Kick on 1 and snare on 9.
What is the relationship between 70 and 140 for dubstep? I always knew it would work for beatmatching ...

Oh I completely understand where you're coming from, I'm exactly the same way in everything new I try.
