Re: Question about frequency and volume
Well you said you are using a steep slope on the EQ, and as far as I know most EQ's boost at the cutoff point creating a peak at the particular frequency, and how steeper the curve how bigger the peak is going to be. This in combination with the phase thing explained earlier might explain the ...

Re: Quick Complextro/dubstep question
I make a bunch of different synth sounds, play them in the key of the song and render them to audio and then i just put all the audio bits together

I think this is whystompzi wrote: When you cut or boost with your EQ, you're not merely applying a gain change to a specific set of frequencies, you're introducing phase changes which can indeed make the peak of the signal louder.
I tried it with a 12 db slope in pro-q and i still lost headroom

Re: Question about frequency and volume
Yeah that was kind of uncalled for Widowmaker and I'm actually partially incorrect because I read the op wrong.
I figured he must have meant the level went down and he didn't understand why exactly :)
The level can't go up when you're only cutting off bass though, that's impossible.
Isn't the ...

Re: Question about frequency and volume
you are gaining headroom in this scenerio. as per expectation.
but i'm talking about digital audio, where 0 db is the ceiling

Re: Question about frequency and volume
might be because your resonance knob is turned up, usually resonance adds some dB's
what plugin you using
Seriously?
For lower frequencies to be audible they need to be louder.
So a lot of the volume in music is in the low end.
Has more to do with physics than with whatever plugin etc..
Dunno ...

Question about frequency and volume
I've been wondering this for a while...whenever i highpass something i actually lose headroom, why is that? Like if something is peaking at -5 dB, it will be peaking at -4 or -3 when i cut the bass out of it for example. Why is that?
Also I've noticed that low sounds peak higher on a spectrum ...

Re: What are the bass waves in sample packs used for
I feel like they are a cop out. They are typically included in packs labeled as construction kits. Listen to people like mord fustang, he has vengeance sample packs labeled all over his sound. I can hardly tell the difference between what was a complete sample or what he actually made. It's like ...

Re: What freq does an E2 sine sub hit?
Fuck, this thread is everything wrong with this forum. It's rather frightening that in three pages no one mentioned that it might be a good idea to layer 1 or even 2 sine waves at higher octaves so ppl can hear on small speakers. Obviously at lower volumes. Or add some low passed distortion if you ...

Re: Tips for having a more flowing drop bassline?
Honestly I think the arrangement in that track was good. I quite liked the flow of it.. in my opinion the sounds themselves just need a lot more work - the drums sound good to me but the bass/synth sounds were small and lacking.
Also, the spectrum in general just needs to be filled out more in my ...

Re: What freq does an E2 sine sub hit?
No, 82hz is close to the absolute highest you should go for a sub.
But that means if your sub is an E2 and you want to go up to G it will be too high but you cant go down to G1 because there will be a drop in volume :(
Ah, now I get why my sub goes to shit on 2 of the notes in the first track ...

Re: What freq does an E2 sine sub hit?
I'm not surprised your monitors don't have strong ~40 hz though. Those monitors aren't meant to.
Right. And neither are most listener's systems.
Most people aren't using little Yamaha near-field monitors that are meant for flat/honest response, they are using headphones and car systems (or ...

Re: What freq does an E2 sine sub hit?
You're telling me side-chaining your kick is the only way to stop it from clashing with a 41 hz sine?
No, I was talking about your statement of "the kick would clash with a 82hz sine".
You said "the bass always clashes with the kick"
bring it down to E1 and it wont

Re: What freq does an E2 sine sub hit?
Check out this chart. E1 hits at 41.2034 and E2 hits at 82.4069. Of the two, I'd say go with E2. 41hz is too low for most systems to reproduce. You probably would have a hard time even hearing it well if you're using a pair of entry-level midfields.
