Re: Stumped for inspiration?... read on...
Weird. This is the fifth thread today when I read about writer's block. Didn't really know that it was such a big problem for producers. Basically any sound you insert in a DAW can set you off on a new adventure. I think it's more to do with a person's psychology, rather than not having ideas.

Re: Some clarification on a Robert Henke technique
Robert Henke is a fantastic producer. One of the most creative guys out there with great sense of musical texture. I could not recommend him more.

There's nothing wrong with MIDI - you just gotta use it wisely without sounding too cheap. There's an EQ for everything

Hot thread! But it's really difficult to define dubstep these days. It's more like music revolving around the power of bass.

Accent the bass - but make sure you don't overdrive it.

Re: Why One Shouldn't Fear Writer's Block
Exactly. Writer's block shouldn't even exist. Fear does though. When I feel that I'm blocked and don't have any ideas I just wait a bit and the ideas will surely come. People shouldn't be so frustrated about writing tunes, it should be more of a natural process.

Re: How do YOU produce music?
I usually try to mix things up. There are some occasions when I start out with building a strong groove. Other times I just play guitar and mess about with chords and different chord progressions. On many occasions I just create some sort of noise in my DAW and go from there. It differs, really. And...

I know that this doesn't really fit in your budget but I just gotta say it: Grado SR60s are really great and the quality/price ratio is one to absolutely consider. Do a quick google search on it!

Re: Screwing songs?
There are many more ways you can "screw" a song. Try bitcrushing different parts of it or maybe even pitch some parts up. Or maybe gate a bunch of your tracks?
It only depends on how creative you get with what you have. Cheers!

Re: Ableton how to see whats eating CPU
Review your individual tracks and delete effects that you're not using. That usually happens to me most of the time. Plus you could easily free tracks, that'll get the CPU running smoothly again. Whoa man, 60+ tracks - that's a huge ass arrangement right there!

I think you should just wait a couple of hours and everything will be back on track - maybe it's something wrong with their servers.
