Whenever I try to make hat patterns like this they always sound real choppy and rigid. I realise a big part of getting the patterns sounding good would be to use airy light hats but I still have trouble. How do you get the flutes / horns / other similar instruments to sound so crisp and smooth in your tracks?

I swear all the samples of these instruments i find don't sound that great and are hard to arrange and work into a track.
