Re: Knowing when to stop/ over playing your own project.

Meh, this is why I work in 1 sitting and if the track isn't complete in a few hours I don't even save it.

Work when it feels right and as soon as it don't - forget the fuck about it.

This is actually what I've started doing. If I don't have something workable within a couple hours then I tend to ...

Re: Remix anything from my album! [Stems now in post!]

If we do happen to remix one or more of the tracks is it ok to upload them to soundcloud or would you prefer them be sent to you first? I mean if you do happen to want to contact FKOF about putting them there it would be reasonable to want that to be the first place they go up.

The first thing I thought of was the Ableton Performance mode connected to a launchpad. I can see people buying it.

Re: How do some guys get away without Panning

I don't think people "get away with it". I think it's a matter of the track itself. For anyone that is used to mixing things like rock and punk or something along those lines, yea, you'll probably see a ton of panning simply because the instruments being used tend to inhabit the same frequencies. I ...

Re: Marketing types stealing my ideas again :|

I suspect trolling. But I'll bite...sorta.

Wouldn't it be more likely that NI stole it from "Addicted to Audio"? This company has been around for 25 years. It's much closer to Addicted to Sound than Addicted to Absynth.

Even more likely, there was a magazine in the 90s called Addicted to Noise ...

Re: Are you an artist?

I can't considering myself an artist because what I make is usually never completely planned. When I look at or hear things that I consider art, generally seem very authentic. Like these people sat down and created these things from a place in their mind where they stored said information until it ...

Re: [POLL]How much would/do you pay for your sample packs?

For more detailed sound packs I don't mind putting 20+ into it. I think the most I've spent is around 42 dollars and it was for like 8 gbs of really cool FX and textures that I use quite often. They work great for layering in with pads and stuff. If it's for just like a bunch of one hit drum and ...

Re: UPGRADE!!!!!1!!!!1111!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!

I don't know where you are getting this idea you are getting a pair of 5Xs for 300-400 dollars anyway. KRK Rokit 6s are about 400 bucks a pair. Yamaha HS 50 M are in that range probably. Recent auctions on eBay for 5Xs have sold between 700-800. For the money, I'd check out Equator Audio D5s and ...

Re: UPGRADE!!!!!1!!!!1111!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!

If you plan on using stuff for a band then you may want a mixer if you plan to record more than 1 thing at a time. An interface should be just fine for recording one instrument at a time though.

Like everyone has said though, stick with an interface, some monitors and a midi controller. If you ...

Re: Where are we going..?

Basically as the title states..
Where are you going with music?
What's the goal? What happens when you reach said goal?
How are we going to achieve it?

I'm a little in a rut right now as I'm wanting to leave the nest and venture off into the world alone.
With nothing more than a little bit of ...

Re: Tip for everyone on Low Frequency Managment

Sounds like a really tedious way of sidechaining. I guess I get what the guy in the video is saying but I don't know if this is really the best way of handling this situation. I don't know if this is a common problem but I never allow my Kick and my bass to take up every last bit of headroom in a ...

Re: Which DAW is worth learning 1st?

The wrong question is being asked in the subject. It sounds like you're planning on trying to learn multiple DAWs when in reality you should really focus on one that you want to use.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with reaper. It's perfectly capable of doing all the things you want to do for the ...

Re: How important do you think it is to stay in key?

i don't think studying music theory is relevant at all.

Well, we can pretty much disregard everything you say after this then!

Considering a lot of the big producers out there have admitted to knowing nothing about playing instruments or music theory I don't see why you would disregard ...

Re: How important do you think it is to stay in key?

I personally feel having some key signature in place is a good idea. I think having that sort of structure in place is going to go a long way in creating the entirety of your song. But there's definitely uses to going out of key. It's quite prominent in horror film scores for instance. It all really ...

Re: Drum programming

My drums actually tend to consist of multiple things. Usually I just use the one shot audio clips and place them directly into the playlist and create the starting of a beat there. Kicks, snares/claps, rides, things like that. For Hat patterns I'll usually use the piano roll on the one shot sample ...

Re: Reverb on Kick O.o?

I would never put the reverb directly on the kick insert but as a send it works well. As everyone already said, it's just a matter of filtering out the lows of the reverb to stop any low frequency phasing.

909 + insert reverb = :U:

compress the hell out of that = instant hardtechno :4:

Re: To what extent do you guys use sample packs?

I use tons of samples. I have folders full of drum and percussion loops. I make extensive use of them if I feel they work with the track. A lot of times I like specific pieces of different loops and I'll cut those and sort of glue them together. Generally I make a very minimal beat using one shots ...
