Re: Sorrow sub bass ... ?
Yeah, I meant LFO on the volume. And I personally just noticed the sub being more loud and fat when using several different oscillators at once. I'm not sure sure to what exact panning helps, but I noticed that spreading it out helped widen the sound a little bit. Just to add, I don't know a whole l...

Re: Sorrow sub bass ... ?
I too was wondering this and messed around in FM8 and found a good way to get really phat subs. Basically just get like 3 or 4 oscillators all sine waves, pan a couple left and right, detune them a little bit. And then add a shitload of compression, and that's pretty much the basis for it, you can a...

Re: Liquid Dub/Chillstep Basses
Thanks for the help. I definately appreciate the advice. I realize you can't really get good at anything if people are telling you exactly what to do, you have to really get comfortable with making your own sounds. So I guess I'll just mess around and try and come up with something. This was a good ...

Liquid Dub/Chillstep Basses
So I don't actually listen to dubstep that much, I just don't really like most of what I've heard. I really don't even know why I joined this specific forum... But I have been listening to some Liquid Dub/Chillstep lately and have actually been enjoying it. I like the idea of actually having differe...

Re: Need recommendations on books!
It's not exactly specifically an EDM production book, but I've been reading this book on Brian Eno, who pretty much invented ambient music, and he talks a lot about the different ways of approaching production, and the mistakes a lot of musicians make when trying to come up with ideas or just in gen...

BigBrightLights - Dreamstate
Yo, I haven't really shared any of my music with people too much, but I just basically wanted some feedback that anyone was willing to give. I know a little about mixing and stuff, but I was wondering if you guys could help shoot me some tips in that area possibly, i would appreciate it. Also, reall...

Re: How can I bounce stems to WAV in ableton?
When you go to export from Ableton, at the top you can pick which track you want to render. On default its on master. That might take a little bit of time though.

Re: sleep writing
I honestly dont see why anyone would WANT to do this. It doesn't help your production at all, you have plently of time during the day to think of melodies, and you would be a lot better off thinking of these ideas when actually sitting infront of your daw, and not just imagining it in your head and ...

Re: sleep writing
The best way I think to improve this would be to learn all your intervals, that way when you try and reproduce your thought up melodies you already know exactly how spaced out the notes you want are, so it would make that a lot easier then hitting random notes until you come up with something like w...

Re: Buying a Refurbished Macbook
I really only have like 700-800 to spend. If i wait another month though and save up a couple more checks, I'll have around 1,000 and that's literally all of my money that i have to spend. You mean get a quad core used instead of a duo cor refurbished? That's a good idea, the only thing is i would h...

Re: Buying a Refurbished Macbook
All the quad cores are like twice as much as I can afford, so I don't think Ill have enough money for any of those any time soon. Also, the newest ones that are around my price range are from like 2009, do you still think those will last me or what?

Buying a Refurbished Macbook
I've had the same shitty laptop for like 3 years. I got it for hardly anything a long time ago. But I finally have some money saved up, and decided that I'm gunna get a new one. The reason I've decided on getting a mac is because I have never actually owned one in my life, I've always had windows, a...

Re: Key of the song?
By scale I usually mean the pythagorean scale we use in pretty much all music in the west. As in the particular frequencies chosen for the notes we use as A,B,C,D,E,f, and G, since some other cultures use completely different frequencies as their main notes. I might be wrong, but by putting 2 and 2 ...

Re: Key of the song?
I would just go by ear. Keys are basically just building blocks and a structured set of notes that you can choose from to create your melodies. It might make things a little more organized to go by a certain key, but for the most part keys are subjective. Different cultures use completely different ...

DJ Fresh, the one from oakland
I've been listening to this hip-hop producer from my area called DJ fresh lately, not the DnB DJ Fresh though, you may have not heard of him if you're not from the bay area unless you're really into underground hip-hop. And I really dig his sound. I don't normally ask for help making synths because ...

Sleep Producing
Somehow every night, I find myself at like 4 in morning subconsciously like making a beat in my head while half asleep, no matter how much I try and have a clear head at night. I've tried limiting myself to not producing within four hours before I go to bed. I also read for about an hour and then me...

Re: Chewing tobacco and producing
If you really have that hard of a time focusing without any tobacco or drugs, mabye you should consider doing something about you ADHD problem rather than comforting yourself with all this shit. You should consider trying some meditation or something, or just try and focus on one thing without getti...

Re: Delay on Guitar Through Ableton
That's what I've been doing so far, just morphing it a little bit so it fits right and trying to hit the strings a little early, just kind of annoying and not as smooth when trying to play along with something.

Re: Delay on Guitar Through Ableton
Thanks for the help man. So basically theres no way to record just straight in ableton without getting any latency? That's wack. Would be a whole lot easier since I could loop it in there and add effects and get my ideas out right away and stuff but I guess I could open up audacity or something and ...
