Re: Getting a 'polished' track. How?

There's no one trick dude. You learn little things everyday. It takes like 10 years to become an "advanced" mixing engineer. And even then you'll still learn new stuff all the time. And no one's gonna look at your track, you gotta learn yourself. I can guess from looking at the waveform of your song ...

Re: Free distortion vst

That won't answer your question but it might e useful for other Ableton users. I use the saturation and redux effects of Ableton and I think they sound great. It's all about using the right settings and only giving them a few dBs of clipping. My favorite settings of the redux is reduce bit depth to ...

Re: Drum Synths (Mac VST)

MicroTonic is really good. Has a lot of good presets to facilitate getting familiar with it. I often end up just using Operator or Analog if I want a simple drum sound though.

Re: EDM moments

People have been using the word "rock" and "pop" to describe a ridiculously broad genre of music, which has changed and keeps changing throughout the years. The word EDM is here to stay and just like "pop" and "rock" it's gonna signify nothing and everything. Deal with it.

Saying that you like to ...

Re: Any tips on learning how to use synthesizer?

How to make a noise book is pretty good because it includes some ear training but even after you read that, you'll have to go on youtube and recreate sounds from tutorials and really analyze what every change to the sound do. I usually put an equalizer as well so I can not only hear but also see the ...

Re: Bought my first bit of equipment, need help.

No offense but this thing looks like a piece of garbage. You could buy a controller for less than $100 that would be nicer and have equivalent or slightly better jug wheels. That would save you the annoyance of buying serato / traktor since you could do it all inside the computer.

The whole point ...

Re: Where to learn basics about effects, etc?

Lol they're "audio effects" because in ableton everything is either an instrument, audio effect or midi effect. EQing and compression isn't technically an effect but there's nothing wrong in calling it an effect. I guess it's called processing when you remove or modify the audio signal, and a ...

Re: Where to learn basics about effects, etc?

EQ, reverb, delay, compression. those are the 4 standard basic FX that you must know in my opinion.

EQ and compression are processing not fx.

why? can you back this up? my DAW (Ableton) classifies all 4 of those as "Audio Effects".

I learned by reading an old school mixing engineer book that talked mostly about analog and then reading the ableton manual.

Re: getting a new computer

I got a 500gig ssd for my mac. It's priceless. VSTs and Samples take so much space. The whole ableton packs take like 40g by themselves. Also an audio interface really helps with the CPU when you got a lot of tracks (+ you kinda need one to hook up your monitor unless you're using a cheap ass 1/8 to ...

Re: Remix Question??

Can be either a remix or a mashup. Calling it anything else makes no sense. People call dub remixes with 10 seconds of an acapella a remix so yours is definitely a remix or a mashup. But you made it u can call it whatever youwant
