I'm no expert but I'd start mixing the drums to how you want them to sound, then mix the bass lines and then the rest of the track making sure not to have anything clipping. If you're eqing you really should be subtracting more than enhancing as the overall eq should be saved for the master.

Tight drums, sounding sweet.

The mix is muddy.

Just an excerpt of the full track which has had a little re-edit to take that filthy little spike out but what is here is the basic track.
