Re: Sidechain

I sidechain with compression but leave the make up gain at 0, with slow attack and slow release for a more natural, subtle feel. I use to manual sidechain, when I didn't know how to sidechain compress. Though sidechaining isn't just about ducking synths with the kick and snare. I love sidechaining a...

Re: Resampling reverbs along with bass

I agree with what Today said. If you need to edit, it's gonna sound obvious it's cut. If something in the track sounds like it needs some 'verb, add it once you've resampled.

But, of course, like Genevieve said "do it if it sounds good"

Re: Could use some help

Not sure if that's possible... What you could do is fake a room reverb by sending all of your drum tracks to a small room or studio reverb.

I believe if you use EZdrummer, it has a choice for drum mic placement.

Re: Sampling chords

I love attack. Each 'Passing Tones' article just gives me inspiration each and every time.
The article on Ostinatos makes me so envious of Feed Me and his genius <3

Everyone who hasn't read their articles, do it! Good post OP.

Re: synth width and the mix

Get yourself a copy of tone projects basslane, it's a little cpu friendly freeware plugin that sends everything below a selected frequency to mono, so you can keep your bass nice and neat. If it's last in your FX chain you can use all the stereo widening tools you want and still have mono bass, I u...

Re: Record Players/Turntables

I wanted a real entry level record player, just to listen some nice ol' records from time to time and some sampling.
I bought the ION Profile - at £70 it's awesome :)

Re: Easy Synthesizer for Basics!

Don't listen to anyone that doesn't say ES1 or ES2 - it's simple as can be really. All synthesizers are the same in theory though. Some have more bells and whistles, but on a fundamental level, they're all the same. Use Logic's built in ES2, learn the fundamentals of sound design, then once you're c...

Re: Programming Tom Rolls...

1up for posting that video ^^^ It's a good vid. Writing in fills is such a hard thing to do. I'll spend an hour trying to write a decent groove or fill and it'll sound shit and I'll wanna kill myself. Then I'll sit down the next day in front of my Maschine Mikro and I'll writing something I love in ...

Re: Kick and Sub Bass Trouble?

To be honest, if I wanted a really prominent sub bass, I wouldn't simply hi-cut to 100Hz. (it should probably be to 73-78Hz as that is normally the thump of the kick) I much prefer to scoop EQ my subs. You dont want frequencies from 70-200 but anything above can be kept to give it definition. If aro...

Re: Question about keyboards

If I remember correctly, the S700 has a USB out and a MIDI out, so yes, in theory you could use it as a MIDI controller. You may need to download some form of driver for it though. (Just searing S700 MIDI driver should bring a result) I doubt you'd be able to sell it for much. The industry standard ...

Re: Having both 808 kicks and a sub-bass line?

Depends on the song really. You could keep the true sub freqs at 20-70Hz in the bass guitar then scoop EQ (Cut out everything in a scooping motion between the frequencies you want to keep. 100Hz to 5KHz for instance) so the kick has the main dominance over the bass, but the bass has that low-end dri...

So this is like a ghetto version of the Kramer MPX tape emulator? Kinda cool for free, I guess. I can't download and try it out though, as I'm on Mac.
